The Big Boy 4014 maybe?  In Märklin magazin (05/2019), page 5 in the French version, there is a short paragraph on the 4014 Big Boy. And they say, at the very end, « more information on the Big Boy in the next magazin »

We were?? Did Herr Müller say something before he disappeared!? I must have been asleep for that bit! There was a poll done by Marklin of Insider members a few years ago that voted on Insider locos that members would like to see produced. There were three or four from the list that were produced, but a few including the BR06 that wern't.

Didn't they do the RAm already? I've seen a few versions of it around but maybe not as an Insider. I'm not terribly lucky with railcar sets. I usually have problems with the inter-coach couplings at some point. My old RAm (Original 3071/4071 set) runs nicely but it is a nightmare to couple the cars together, and of course I am forever glueing the windows back in! |

The real RAm measures 98,06m which in 1:87 is 112,7 cm.
I don't know if the heads have the same length of the cars, bu tif they have, each will measure 28,2cm in 1:87 scale. If this is the case I guess the model will be in 1:87.

Means problems with signals, catenary masts, turnouts, etc. . Weight for all 4 cars together will be 2 kg - well not bad.

For anyone who might be interested, here is a small history. With acknowledgement for the text to TRAINZ. TRAINZ TEEThe primary function of the Dutch/Swiss TEE was providing the once daily Edelweiß service, each way between Amsterdam & Zurich via Basle, Luxembourg and Brussells. These trainsets were also seen sharing the Amsterdam to Paris 'Etoile du Nord' and 'Ile de France' services; the 'Brabant' between Brussels and Paris; the Paris and Lausanne 'l'Arbarete'; and the 'Bavaria' between Munich & Zurich. At a time when electrification of the Edelweiß route was incomplete, and the existing sections were of different current systems it was considered there was no alternative to diesel power for this TEE. Even if the electrification could have been completed, developements in multi-system technology hadn't sufficiently evolved to traverse the 4 different current systems involved; 1500V DC in the Netherlands; 3000V DC in Belgium; 15000V 16 2/3 Hz AC in Switzerland, and 25000V 50Hz AC in France. In 1957, 5 train sets were delivered, DE-1001 to DE-1003 to Nederlandse Spoorwagen (NS) and RAm 501 & 502 to Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB). The power cars were built by Werkspoor in the Netherlands; 2 1000 HP 16 cylinder diesels powered a generator that delivered current to four traction motors. A further 350 HP engine provided on-board power supply; and at that time, adoption of a 1BO-BO1 wheel arrangement was necessary to achieve a suitable axle load of 20t. Coach stock was Swiss built, Schweizerishe Industrie-Gesellschaft drew on experience gained from the construction of the 'Leichtstahl-I' series coaches. The consist included a passenger car with 9 compartments each seating 6, a restaurant car and an open coach fitted with remote cab and streamlining to match the power car. The inclusion of a duplicate cab eliminated the necessity for time consuming shunt manouevres; the consists were semi-permanently coupled and treated as self propelled vehicles. With the spread of electrification in Europe and advances in multi system electric train technology; with the exception of 501, which had been destroyed in an accident, the DE TEE1/RAm trainsets were withdrawn in 1974. The Ontario Northland Railway (Canada) took possession of all the remaining vehicles in 1976, for use on the 'Northlander' Timmins-Toronto express service. |

I would hope that Maerklin would render the RAm in the same scale as the earlier RAe Gottardo, so that the two trainsets would look "normal" alongside each other.
The mix of models in 1/87, 1/93.5 leaves something to be desired. The video seems to suggest that this might be in exact scale, like the Lightsteel coaches.
I do think that the connections (gangways) look better on this new model than on the Trix 22131 from a few years back.

This new RAm seems a better model than 39700, which is largely based on 3471 so has plastic bodies with couplers that aren't much different from those on the 3071.
The new model is all metal, seems to be closer to 1:87 scale and looks more realistic as a complete set.
From what I could understand from the garbled Youtube English subtitles on the video, the first 500 orders of the RAm railcar will come with a book about the railcar which is worth 54 euros.

However i am disapointed at Märklin present another swiss model as insider model again.
This model is nothing for me anyway. |
