I was reading another thread (Paper or .....) and saw mention of this track planning software. Downloaded, viewed the nine short training videos and was very pleased. I currently use WinTrack 9.0 and also very please except with the creating slopes - I just mess that up. That one aspect seems simple in SCARM and so I played around a little this this new tool. Seems easy (just like WinTrack). One function I could not locate was how to store one's track inventory. Could not find in the index or help section. Does anyone know if this function is in SCARM?

Regards

Harvey,

I have been using SCARM now for several years and find it easy to use and really like the Layers feature. That way you can show certain information on the various layers such as benchwork, sensors, keyboard addresses, etc. and turn them on or off depending on what you want.

SCARM does create a parts list for the track items used in your design, but if you are asking whether it has an entry area to list your actual track inventory compared to what you need, I have not found that function.

Maybe we can forward that as a suggestion of future improvement to Mixy, the developer of this great software?

Would be a great feature... You enter your own track inventory, you plan the track - and maybe then the software also could create
the difference between planned & actual supply and give you a suggested shopping list?

Just another crazy idea on my side... BigGrin

That's not a crazy idea at all. I have actually done that in a fashion by taking the SCARM Parts List and copying it into Excel, adding a column to add my inventory and then having a Balance column to show excess or missing track. It works fine for a layout at a certain point of time. However, once you fiddle with the layout and the Parts List changes you need to do the whole process all over again.

So if the inventory list was directly in SCARM it would hopefully adjust for layout changes.

I think it is a great idea!

What you describe as the benefit is exactly what I was thinking. WinTrack has this feature and it is very helpful. I like WT feature as it records what I use for each layout I create and compares to my inventory, ignoring my other layout designs. Hope this can be added. I haven't seen any other major difference in functionality.
