No, plastic - same construction as the other 4200-series coaches. This isn't a problem though, they have more than enough weight to stay on the track.

4093 and 4094 have arrived:





Does anyone know which lighting kit these take? They have the old-style bogies (they're the very first versions of 4093/4) so it looks as though 7329 won't fit as they don't have the hole in the centre of the bogie for the slider to clip into.

According to the 1976 catalogue, these coaches take the 7324 or 7325 lighting kits. If the bottom of the coach is marked "A", you use 7325, otherwise you use 7324.

I've no idea at the moment if these kits are still available. I can't find them on the Marklin database.

My collection is made up of trains I have been on on seen during my infrequent travels in Europe. The majority of trains represent swiss and international traffic inside and through Switzerland. All of my tractive power is swiss or international that operates in CH. (Except for the 39579 DB 103 which I got because of the cool pantographs). Since 2006, 103 184 has been given permission to haul trains in CH so I guess that conflict doesn't even apply anymore.

The duplication of trains between 1:87 and 1:100 exists as I have bought some rolling stock to use on the layout from one of the Marklin Start Sets. The 1:87 stock is waiting the eventual completion of a more complicated and permanent layout.

I use memory, photos and resources like www.reisezuege.ch to recreate the consists in model.

I would say that I must have somewhere in excess of 600 coaches by now from era III (1965) to today.

Now if only I could take them to Luzern and let them run on the Gotthard layout. Maybe I'll have to settle for Galleria Baumgartner http://www.galleriabaumgartner.ch/

How would I explain that to the customs officer at Zuerich Airport?
"Oh, I am just taking about 100 loks and 600 coaches to Mendrisio to play with them for an hour or so."

Hmmm I have:
- 4 dopplestock coaches, 2 red era V marklin + cab car (all hobby version but with headlight.taillight switch over) and one lima NS coach which sits in the consist, often has a roco half-baggage single deck car with it (blue/cream paint scheme)
- red/cream 1st class car one dining car with pantograph (marklin) + 2 roco blue/cream 2nd class cars trailed by a marklin SBB cab car (push-pull operations are a nessecity and this seemed like the most suitable cab car to go with the set)
- special "senic train" consisting of red/cream marklin cars, one metal dining car, one dome car and one 1st class car with tail lights
- knorr spagghettari commuter car set, marklin, very special set that I purchased from the marklin museum when I was traveling through germany in '03

Hoping to add a rake of piko IC cars (ICE like scheme) with a marklin cab car and a piko br101 in the near future :)

Yes Matt, they are the 1/100 scale. They are nic. Brass window frames, nice lighting. I think they were made at Sonneberg, but I am not sure. I hope they will accept the current conducting close couplers. It is a long consist to remove from the layout. he Sudwind TEE restaraunt car is a lighter cream/red color, but the moving pantograph is cool. It's a noisy train because there are four pick-up shoes on it currently. I'd much rather hear the wheels on the rails.

Thanks, I was wondering about that. Rather hoped that Marklin would do the sensible thing and provide it with factory fitted lighting controlled by the decoder, they should have fitted current conducting couplers wired to the decoder too so you could use it straight from the box to control lighting on a complete train. If it doesn't have that I'll probably just buy a 4294 instead as I feel £91 a bit steep for a single coach that doesn't have everything it could have. It should be possible to rewire it to provide track power to adjacent coaches via the couplers, I've done this with a 4297 restaurant car.

You should be able to drop the close couplers straight into your coaches, my Sudwind set now has them. I just need another four lighting units to get my TEE set fully illuminated with one slider providing power for seven coaches. Bear in mind that you need to keep a standard close coupler on the ends of the set as the current conducting sort won't couple to the standard type and will short out against metal couplers.

What catalogue number is the Electric class 120? Is it 3153?

I have a 37537 TEE sudwind color. Nice engine. Conventional motor. I miss the motorola dip switches (sort of).
The drivers cabs are lighted, but they both light together. Marklin should coordinate them with the reversing head/marler lights.

I have same one as well, Still in unused in box.

Is there a restroom for the driver? Are there other controls away from the I.P.? Maybe reason for cab lighting?
The engine rooms of the 103, and 111 prototypes are lit.

It is no sounds, The 3653 was early digital version with older 6080 decoder with large old type dips switch.

4095/6/7 have turned up and are slowly having modified couplings installed. Here's a photo I took today of 4094, 4097 and 4297 together:



I'll get a photo of the full ten coach TEE set at some point. It's getting a bit difficult to take photos of due to the sheer size of the thing!

A bit of a mixture, one of the two 4095s turned up with "Sudwind" destination board transfers fitted so has been coupled with the current production IC Sudwind stock, although the colours don't match too well.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of the metal coaches. Yes they're a piece of history but the early plastic ones are too, and they're usually cheaper in the same condition. My 4095/96/97 look very good indeed considering their age and lack of boxes, just need to match the silver and cream paint so I can touch up a few wear marks.

I got myself two Marklin 43232. For a nice price.
One second class coach is still in order. They had a max speed limit of 160 km/h.
They will be used after my br01 and br61.

I like the Marklin/Trix skirted coaches, but I think the Liliput ones are more detailed. Here's a comparison shot of a Liliput Epoch 2 version next to a Trix Epoch 3 Rheingold version:



The Liliput one seems to have better vents on the roof, and is a lot cheaper. The only minus point is that they're glued together so getting inside to add lights and figures will be very difficult. Given I only paid £10 for it in the big Liliput sale I'm not too bothered about that.
