Hi everybody!

I found out that one of my UIC-X passenger coaches has a missing coupler. I took a photo of the remaining one so as to try to get a spare part.

Any help identifying the type or model number?

thanks

I think we need more information if you want us to help you with your inquiry: what is the catalogue number of your carriage ?

It is a TEE coach #4059, I guess. It has this specific type of coupler which I would like the type of name or #article

Thanks

I don't think this coupler is from a 4059, which is a 24cm long tin-plate coach. It looks like a standard plastic 701570 coupler similar to this one:

Hi,

The couplers shown were used from the mid 1970s until the early 1980s at the 409X 27 cm cars. They are no longer available since decades. The number was 701620, but this is just academic knowledge.

Markus

The coupling similar to 44xx and 44xxx hobby series freight stock.

No,

that is not the same coupler. That version above has longer arms than 701570 which is used on the 44XX series and many modern cars.

It's not the same coupler but couldn't a 701570 fit? The "spring" arms are shorter and might not be as effective but it might at least allow coupling with other coaches

Hello and thanks for all the fruitful and interesting responses.

My mistake. Indeed it was not a 4059 coach. I had it labeled under such erroneously it seems (which would be the proper number, 4095 perhaps?) but I do posses a real 4059 and it's a metallic one, and not plastic, as mentioned.

I enclose a couple of additional photos in case it's helpful.

If you can notice, I placed a Relex coupler on the right side of the coach to make a contrast how shorter it is.

Hi,

Yes 4095 is the correct number for the coach shown. That coupler is a nice project to 3D-print. Give me some weeks and I will draw it and publish the files. I think that PLA is flexible enough to produce usable parts.

Hi,

I haven't forgotten this topic. This is the first concept for the coupler. Next will be finding the best material to print it and test the samples.

OMG!
I know I'm late to the party but do you have the STL by any chance? Those couplers are just impossible to find.

3D printing entire couplers is beyond my skill level so I just make NEM adapters that let me use stock Marklin couplings.

I couldn't get enough strength and precision in the small plastic parts for a reliable coupling that I would trust with my rolling stock.

Possibly some of the NEM adapters that I made for Startup rolling stock could be modified.

All, not trying to hijack the thread, but what are the Marklin current conducting couplers for the 409X 27cm coaches?
Thanks in advance...

That would depend if your 27cm coach has close couplers or not.

There were two or three different couplings for the 4091-4099 coach models (DB Blue/Beige/TEE/IC). The original 27cm models had centre mounted bogies with a clip on relex coupler. Then there was the newer version of the coupling part from the period 1980-1984 and then, some models were delivered with offset mounted bogies and a shorter coupling part without the relex part. Finally, around 1985, the models were replaced by new models (4291-4298) with offset mounted bogies and close coupling mechanism and shaft with NEM coupler head.

To find these harder to find couplers, you can check with Ritter Restaurationen in Germany, possibly Eckert in USA and maybe Amiba in Switzerland.
I believe that if you can't find the oldest ones, you can install the intermediate ones as long as the pins are the same.

I would also suggest that with some coaches going for as little as 10 EUR on ebay, it is probably cheaper just to buy one of those and to repurpose the couplers or bogie and coupler to repair your model.

I might even have a spare pair here.

I have a spare set of bogies with couplers (newer version) from a 1980s TEE coach.
Corresponds to top image in photo of post #4 https://www.marklin-user...older-autotransportwagen
