I have an old analog 3034 with a worn out motor.
Then i bought a 60943 motor but not with a decoder, i just want a new motor on my old ac system.
It does not work.
Can I expect it to work or do i need to upgrade to digital dc?

The 60943 converts your motor into a DC motor, so no, just replacing the motor won't work on your conventional AC system.

If you put a appropriate decoder however (say the mLD or 60760), you can run it on your conventional AC layout with that new DC motor (make sure you have one of the newer white transformers otherwise you risk damaging the decoder!). In this case, even though you have a digital decoder inside, you don't necessarily have to run the train in digital.

Hi Bernt,

Welcome to the Forum!

You should be able to find a replacement or repair it without having to convert to digital.
Are the gears worn out, or just the motor?

Photos would be helpful.

If you just want to run the one loco on the existing set, then just getting a new 3pole motor might do it, if there is indeed a problem.
Have you tried changing brushes and cleaning the motor, etc?

... I love the 3034. Was one of my first engines years ago!
And my first and only electric until 35 years later.

Cheers
Mark

Thanks for the swift responses!
The 3034 is my first locomotive. I got it 45 years ago. It is a bit of nostalgia.
Think it is the motor that needs to be replaced.
No problem to buy a decoder.
I have a grey trafo.

What do you mean with "worn out": may be just new copper/graphite brushes would do to fix the problem.
Or a full clean out.
Pictures and bettre description would be useful for a bettter advice
No need to install a decoder if you just plan to keep it "analog".
Anyway spare parts are available on internet (and some also from Maerklin and local dealers)

That's the first and best thing to do to start repairing any old motor.

I'm glad you got it going!

Great news you got it running with the decoder.

I just wanted to say one could also install a rectifier off of the old reverse unit before the new dc motor. I've done that with MTH O loco's when the board fried. Worked fine...but of course there is more room in O LOL
