Greetings,
When it is 'enough'? I have discovered that Marklin is addictive. And...I may be an addict.

After selling a bunch of 'antiques' that I thought I had no need for and did not see for over a quarter of a century, I now am missing a few of them.

Plus, I am scanning Ebay several times a week for some 'good deals' and have bought a decent amount of rolling stock to 'replace' my losses.

Last week I packed up the track, models and trains. Then I rolled up the grass mat and put the plywood in storage in the garage....now I feel lonely, as if something is missing, as though I have betrayed a friend/friends. I think it's Marklin withdrawl.

So...when does one have 'enough' locomotives and rolling stock?

Is there a 12 step method that can help me, or is it ok to think I need another F7 and freight cars?

Any advice is appreciated....Cool BigGrin LOL Laugh Mellow Mellow

I believe this may be a very common addiction; it occurs mainly in adult homo sapiens who partake in a "collective" hobby. I used to ask myself how a person end up with 50, 100 or even more locomotives; i am learning to understand this phenomenon better.BigGrin

As for a cure, no such luck, but do keep in mind this is a loooooooong term hobby. You do not have to buy all possible combinations of locos in one or two years. And for those around you who may summise that you are crazy, let them, it gives them something to talk about.LOL LOL

I do not mind being addicted to this hobby. I am having fun with it.

"Hi, my name is Steve and I collect Marklin"

I feel safe in this support group of 3000-odd.

But, if your trains keep you from a warm bed where your wife is waiting,
If they keep you inside on a sunny day when the kids want to swim or the lawn needs a mow,
If they stop you going to Church on a Sunday,
If they cause you to lie to your spouse (excluding modestly deflated values of the latest purchase),

I'm sure you can all add your own.....

Then perhaps THAT's enough???

:-)

Please note the following are NOT symptoms of too much

You read catalogues in bed instead of a thriller
You read catalogues instead of watching a favourite movie
You take a catalogue to Church instead of your Bible (or in your Bible)
You mow the lawn but don't worry about the edges - there's a catalogue waiting
You do take the kids swimming..., at 4pm when you know the pool closes at 5.
You spare your spouse the duty of opening the bank statement
You check m-users.net before you check your email (guilty)

Too much Marklin? Nah, not a chance

Enough: NEVER! BigGrin

Well - 'unfortunately' (without being a professional) I must say that you ARE an addict! There's no other cure but to check in on this forum every now and then and to plan for building a layout and stock up some more Märklin items... LOL

Cookee,
Ah, that is so well said.

My son and I have had a blast 'playing' with the trains. And putting up models that my Dad and I worked on in the 80's....Priceless.

I have put the track, trains and plywood away till November, so I guess I just proved that I can 'stop when I want'. LOL.Cool

Great Great fun,
Paul

It doesn't get better as you get more.

I mentioned in another thread that there was an auction house unloading HAG DC on ebay

So far my total;
7 Re 456
3 Re 465
1 460
2 Re 6/6

All since the start of 2011. Houston; we have a problem
