I saw a discussion some time ago about what type of oil is best for smoke generators. Now that I have a loco with smoke, I can not remember the details. I do remember that the Marklin oil was not the best to use, but that is about all I remember.
Anybody have suggestions on what is best to use?

I believe Seuthe sells some smoke oil, SR 24? Also on the MML and Märklin Bar&Grill it was suggested to use "musical instrument oil" intended for brass instrument valve lubrication and such since the smoke was better and did not harm the smoke generator. Can someone else "fill up" on this issue?

Hi all,
Original posted on the MML,then reposted on the Bar&Grill by J.J. McVeigh:

A few months back there was a discussion about the making of smoke for the
>Seuthe units. John McVeigh came up with the suggestion of using Cass
>musical instrument oil for valves, trumpets, and valve trombones etc. Wow
>John !!! You talk about "Smoke" It works grrreeeat. Far better than
>anything I have used and the smoke pours out. The BigBoy with two units was
>just fantastic. I have the layout in a 20x15 foot room and I felt that I

>I'm impressed. Dick Pike

Credit to where credit is due: not to me, but to Rex Trye of New Zealand.

I merely republished what Rex had previously posted to MML, in the
glory days of that list, about a year after I learned of it:
