Hello Folks,
I purchased two Trix Express coaches that I beleive were made in the late 80's.
Are these compatible with my Marklin equipment?
The couplers are some strange type of loop couplers.

Hi Carl,

Welcome to the forum. Thank you Bigdaddy for the compliment, I know enough about TRIX Express to be dangerous..... expert I am not sure yet!!

TRIX Express coaches will run on your Maerklin track but you will need to change out the wheel sets. If the TRIX Express coaches came with the larger flange wheels they will not operate properly on any Maerklin track as the rail profile height is too low for them. Which TRIX Express coaches did you acquire? I can then let you know which wheel sets to exchange them with.

In order to use these coaches with other Maerklin ones you will also have to exchange the couplers. TRIX Express (TE) had many different coupler types on its coaches etc. so without knowing what models you have I cannot recommend anything at present. If the coaches have NEM pockets then the fix is easy, you simply remove the TE ones and replace with close-or Maerklin loop NEM couplers.

Let me know what models you have and I can further advise.

Thanks for the welcome, and the info.
I'll get up in the attic tomorrow to get the numbers of those coaches.
I have always been a fan of European type trains, and only in the past 2 years I have strated to collect them.
I only have 2 Marklin small tank locos,a 0-6-0t,and a 2-6-0t.
I hope sometime soon to get some diesel,or electric power.

Maurice,

May be this post is slightly off-topic, but can you help me?

I got some time ago a Trix-Express TEE car set, like this in the picture, to use it with my 3053

UserPostedImage

UserPostedImage

As you can see, the set has some kind of "mixed" couplers. It seems that couplers can not be dissassembled from the bogie. Is it possible to replace these ones or should I replace the complete bogie? Is there a source for spare parts?

In addition, in some cases the small part which holds the buffers (a sliding bar which includes the buffers) is missing. This part is very similar to some Rowa cars I've seen. Is it possible to find this part somewhere? I like the detailing on these cars very much and I'd like to keep them, but If I can not find suitable couplers for Märklin I'll sell them. Any advice on their value?

Many thanks.

Hello Brakepad,

The couplings you have on these TRIX Express/Roewa coaches come as a single unit that is attached to underside of the bogies. These coupling types (you have a combination of Express and International) are no longer manufactured and spares of them are hard to find. The old catalogue numbers are 43-3377-78 (Express) 56-6660-00 (International).

I think the easiest "fix" for you is to simply install a TRIX Express NEM coupler part number 33336258 in the NEM pocket of your locomotive or of a coach of similar type that has an NEM pocket. That way you can keep the integrity of the TRIX Express coaches and couple them as is.

The buffers may be replaced by TRIX part number 42-2478-88. You could also do a search on E-bay. There is a gentleman in Canada who offers replacement buffers for Fleischmann, Roco, TRIX. I have a couple of sources through IG TRIX Express that I may be able to put you contact with for those buffers if that does not work for you. Just send me an E-mail and we can proceed if you would like.

Well I dug those passenger cars out of the attic today.
The first is numbered 53 3352 00,and is Cream/Blue with a grey roof.
The roadname is DB,and looks like a baggage car.
The second car is numbered 53 3383 00,and is maroon/yellow with a silver roof.
It has DSG Schlafwagen on the side, looks like a sleeping car.

Sorry I can take photos of them though.

Hi Carl,

I have images of these coaches and in fact have some myself. They are mid 1980's vintage. As I mentioned to Brakepad in a prior post, you will not be able to change the couplings as they are unique to that series of coaches so exchanging them for Maerklin ones will not be easy without major changes to the bogies.

You can exchange the wheels with Maerklin AC wheels sets. If your locomotives have NEM coupler pockets you will be able to use them to pull these coaches if you exchange the Maerklin couplers with TRIX Express NEM coupler part number 33336258.

Hope this helps.

Hi Carl,

There are items for TRIX Express and TRIX Twin that come up for sale on E-bay. Remember TRIX Express and TRIX Twin operate on a different circuitry than Maerklin and different track. You can operate Maerklin on TRIX track but not vice-versa.

Good luck in your endeavors.
