I intend to use a 60822 to power k and m83. One source says to use a special power supply unit, another says you can use a a train. controller using the accessories output. Any comments.

By the time the 60822 got to market, the option to use a legacy transformer (... train controller accessory output..) had been forgotten.
Its only power source to use is a 18/19V DC power supply, originally of the 6636x type (i.e. same as a MS2).

Personally I would not bother using it for a m8x item - you can plug the external power supply directly into these without the 60822.

For the k83 items there is some merit, should you already have acquired a 60822 (and power supply).
However generally I would suggest using existing booster solutions (for your track) and driving Accessories like k83s from the main controller
