The 844 and this BR 02, IMHO, are spot on decisions from Märklin and they also have all the features I like.
The only thing missing is the Telex in the back, but although it was good it is not super important (for me).
Until their announcement I was thinking the new items for 2021 were not exciting, but now, about these 2 new items I can't say that anymore.
Edit: The price is not spot on... (IMHO)

Use the passenger set that was issued for the 39436 “Hochhaxige” / “High Stepper” from 2019. Comparing the two locos I suspect that Marklin has used the same chassis for both locos as they are both “Hochhaxige” / “High Stepper” locos (read the bumpf in the prospect for the 39027 and you'll see where I'm coming from).

The German text for the 02 0314 reads "Edelrenner", not "Hochhaxige".
The wheel diameter is different IRL, but that wouldn't stop Märklin from re-using the chassis. They used the class 111 chassis for the F-7 - no problem, both are Bo'Bo' locos.
They also used the BR 18.4 chassis for the streamlined 03.10 before they made a new chassis at some stage.

OK, I'm going on the English in the prospect, but translation errors are not unknown. What would you expect Edelrenner to translate as? Google gives me "Premium racer" which I guess is similar to "High stepper" if one thinks in terms of race horses and the like.
I'm sure they will have had an eye on future products such as this one when designing the chassis for the 39436, even if the wheel diameter isn't the same. The two bogies superficially look like they have the same wheel diameter (which would make sense on the original locos anyway) so maybe a touch of milling on the chassis casting ...
I guess the next Insider magazine or Marklin Magazine will have an article on the new loco, so we will find out soon enough.

"Hochhaxige" means "high-legged", "long-legged" or "leggy". Maybe high-stepper was a somewhat inaccurate translation in the first place. Using the term again as a translation for "premium runner" now is also somewhat inaccurate.
The term "unique one-of-a-kind" also shows how carefully they set the words in the catalogue.
I don't know which part of loco construction is really expensive. They can re-use the chassis of 02 0314 to make models of regular class 18.3 in the future.

As always, to late for their new items, Roco bought out this loco years ago (18201) and than with different versions after that., Roco also bought out a 2nd tender which I bought and converted with a motor, lights and fitted a sound decoder in it., the first tender has a lokpilot. , I would have bought the Märklin model because its not tender driven but as I said to late for me., I'm sure there will be many members who will buy this model

Hello Panayotis,
I cannot see why not, I believe these cars would suit very well.
They are for era IV, and ran in both west and east Germany.
Even though the locomotive was not in service after 1971 these cars were likely in service before that time.
Märklin says these cars are for the train in 1976/7:
D 263 Hamburg - Büchen - Hagenow Land - Schwerin - Wittenberge - Nauen - Potsdam - Doberlug-Kirchhain - Dresden.
If I were to buy this locomotive, I would certainly try to obtain those cars which were produced in 2016.
regards
Kimball

Maybe Märklin is using the chassis of the 18.3 with some small changes for the BR 02.
The Youtube video in German is nice to see. Let's hope they have soon a translated one.
I don't see anything mentioning that the meters and levers inside the cab are painted and if that is the case it is a pity for a model like this. Maybe feature (cab painted inside) is only for models produced in Asia and this one it is not...

One dealers website macros must be askew. They sent an e-mail yesterday of it with the item number as the 800 Challenger. When I went to the site and looked at it, the item number was corrected.

I know I'm late to the party, but I did not see a reaction to the BR 103.1 in "fake" ICE livery (39173). What do you guys think of it ?
I know when I was a kid, I was an absolute fan of the BR 103 from Märklin.
And I must say I love this "fantasy" ICE livery ...

The loco is in IC livery, not ICE livery, celebrating 50 years of IC trains in Germany.
It's the livery of class 146.5 applied to class 103.1. The livery is real, but on this loco it is fictitious.

Marklin needed a good slogan following the debacle of Kingsbridge capital management. I'm glad they survived that, and the great recession. Many didn't recover.
The br103 has been a class mainstay since the 1970s. No doubt it will remain in the Marklin program for a long time.

The new mould with the correct length came long after Kingsbridge.
It seems it has nothing in common with the old mould.

Yes, and there are two cab lengths as well now. You have to admit, the quality boast Slogan from 2015 is catchy.

Item #39379 br 101 has been announced for December release. This is the final Marklin ho locomotive to be converted to can motor and cardan drive from the old vertical armature and gear drive. The classic Marklin unique motor design is no more.

I'm new to this, so maybe this is normal, but ...
I ordered at ZevenSpoor (NL) the CALTEX tank car (46537) which is part of the 2021 new items.
They answered me that the delivery was scheduled for ... 2022 !?!?
Is this normal ?

I placed my order for the 2021 items on 23/01/2021 for marklin 39991,39089 locomotives, marklin 46231 and trix 24121 wagon sets.I will get the 39089 at the end of 2021 and all the rest in the year 2022 after at least one year. This way of delivery is common.

It can be. Just looking down the price list supplied by one shop in Germany, which has only items from the Autumn now Items on it, there are 22 items listed across all gauges as 2022 delivery, of which the tanker you mention is one.
It is not uncommon for items listed in the later NI brochures for the year to have delivery listed as being the following year. With the current pandemic affecting production lines even these dates can be quite stretched, a prime one being the ICE4 that marklin announced in 2019 as being 2020 delivery, and is still not delivered yet.
At some point marklin has to make plans about what it will deliver in the early new year, and depending what other items they may have planned they will announce these late the previous year. It is not really practical for them to deliver items from the new Items announcement they do at the Nurnberg toy fair immediately (although a number of items based on previously produced items may be delivered very soon after) so there is always some carry over from the previous year.

I wonder how many more? That is both good and yet bad for colector value. The more produced, the lower future values.

Hi
I don't have all your connections with Märklin but the main German website says the loco will be released in November 2021 even though some say Märklin does not accept orders any more. Quite possible they did it for the 39241 (SNCF 241A65)
Very nice loco but a bit expensive for me as I wait for €800 Rheinpfeil train set (Can't buy all
)
Cheers

From Stummi

I ordered mine on the 6th of October after procrastinating a bit - 1 week after the BR02 was announced. Hopefully, not too late!
The Red light on the Product Database says to Check with your Dealer, which generally means Sold out at the Factory but Dealers may be carrying extra items.

I love to be taken for an idiot
Vilithejou was most certainly referring to new photos of the UP 844 model (that seem to have appeared on this so called Facebook page Marklin Forum HO), and not the pictures and videos supplied by Maerklin that we are already all aware of.
Nevertheless, attached some pictures coming from the Stummiforum.

Cheers.

This is the first time for such a huge locomotive without wooden packing. All the previous Big Boys and Challengers were in wooden boxes.

Not to highjack the thread drift, but I want the 43815. Why are they releasing fall items before earlier catalogued ones for 2021?

I like small volume packages, so I am happy they don't include a big package this time. Despite this, the package needs to be strong enough
to protect the locomotive, so I hope it will be strong enough.
I also hope that Märklin uses strong cardboard in the package. Some of the ones I bought are not in this class, specially the outer sleeve.
One interesting solution could be a TrainSafe traveller with rails inside a cardboard package. The cardboard package would allow to include the manual and some extra add on parts.

That will depend on what the current production queue is in the relevant portion of the relevant factory producing that item. I had to wait until this half of this year for items announced at the beginning of 2020.
There has always been a degree of this happening, with items announced in the new Items at the beginning of the year not being delivered until the end of the year, or into the following year, despite other items announced in Summer and Autumn NI brochures being delivered.
The current Covid problems have really screwed up up delivery times worse than normal.

There is a trend for manufacturers to make announcements early in an attempt to signal their intentions and get in first and fend off their rivals from producing the same new items and beating them to the shops.
