That's not an issue any more for me, but 2020 was an expensive year (see what happens when you're at home in lockdown with only an internet connection to keep you company.....)

I wonder if Marklin is going to reveal something special on the models by the expensive pricing, or simply to balance the losses or profit decline arising from covid-19 in 2020.

I don't think so, the prices are in line with items from before Covid Era. The crocodile price is not that different to the 39560 series, it would be about right for the inflation rate since the last ones of those. The other items are commensurate with that.

Hmm just 2 era 2 items, the zeppelin (already have one) and the Swiss Ae 3/6. That is rather underwhelming.

I would probably have bought that Z trainset with E18 if it was HO.

Edit: and completely NOTHING Era 1. Are pre-war trains so difficult to sell nowadays?

I am surprised there is no new mould steamer.
The prices of the new electrics are now prices comparable to top steamers.
I will probably go for the Austrian croco and maybe one more, but don' t know yet if any.

Well, there are 3 items I could be interested in, 1 x BLS Re 465, 1 x SBB RAe 4/8, 1 x ÖBB Rh 1189, I find it odd the DB BR 194 is only driven by 2 axles (Co-Co loco)

And no rolling stock at all! My primary interest is Era II, so an easy year for me. I will get the Churchill Arrow and not much more. That could have, and probably did, run in Era II.

I like the concept of a lot of the sets, such as Long Henry, but they’re all out of era for me.

I read: "Both outer driving wheels in each truck powered using cardan shafts."
I think this is misleading as it really seems it is only 1 axle in each truck. I prefer they talk about powered axles.

Good observation. Catalogue text makes no sense though.
I assume they meant "axles" when they wrote "wheels".

Update: In the product database it reads axles. So in the PDF we see the usual level of quality assurance.

The BR01 in the classics still hasn't cab light. I think that is a change M* should do.

The english translation of the CS3 v3 book is a good idea. I don't know if it will be done where they build some special models :)

I also like the BR 194s and the Class 77s.

The displayed model of the OBB crocodile had solid wheels - couldn't they raid some wheels off a Swiss crocodile to display spoked wheels, even if they were incorrect? This suggests the model is also a long way from production, like the Kofferli in HO was, the display model for that still had solid wheels at the September IMA show in 2019.

Some wagon sets through the range which I will think about getting. I'll have to sit down with the brochures and ponder for a bit, and see what my budget may stretch to.

The green Br194 and its train look attractive to me. I don't have one in green yet.

I also quite like the starter set with the diesel shunter and wagons loaded with Porsche sports cars. It's very cute!

Other than that I might get a Br56, which I've missed out on up to now, and maybe the Br01, as I don't yet have one with the latest tooling.

I'll wait to see what the delivery dates might be...

I noticed that. Maybe US models aren’t selling that well. I didn’t understand why they did the Coca-Cola set. Seemed like such a vertical market for that item. Maybe there will be some summer or fall items. Respectfully, I would not be interested in a cab forward.

I can't understand why this is 'completely new tooling'. I guess they need to change the body for the different year they are modelling, and may have to change the motor from what they have used in the past due to supply issues ... I'm thinking about the freight set that goes with it though.

Originally Posted by: RayF Go to Quoted Post

Yes, I quite like the look of that as well. maybe get one or two of the extra wagon to put some of my Porsche car collection on as well ... BigGrin - I'm wondering of there is a certain Porsche owner on the forum who will also get this set ... BigGrin BigGrin

The other one that intrigues me (no, i'm not interested in getting it) is the 'super heroes' loco which seems to have about six superheroes on it, but only three wagons to go with it. I am guessing there will be another three wagons with the other 'super heroes' in the Autumn NI, in time for Christmas.

The other item I am pondering the announcement of is the Br103 IC livery Messe-Lok. Without having a Messe to go to they have announced it. I would have thought they could have held off on this to see if the Toy Fair actually goes ahead in the middle of the year when it has been delayed until.

Some of the wagons seem to be expensive for what you get. I guess there are a lot of detail bits to fit to them, so a lot of manual work.

The 47146 log carrying wagon set also has a Trix counterpart with the cross numbers referenced in the Trix brochure but not the marklin one (except for the picture at the bottom on the page of the Marklin one). But the Trix brochure shows a train using both part numbers, implying they may have different road numbers between the two sets, although it is not stated anywhere.

The thing that amazed me is that the ballast tamper machine is Digital only - does not work in AC. Not even to travel along the rails!!!

We have another Swiss Gottardo panorama coach in the 43652, to go with the 43650 set and 43650.001 single coach. I wonder what is planned for 43651? Confused

I quite like the set of wagons to go with the crocodile, trouble is one would also like to get the Trix set as well, as they have different road numbers.

Two extra coaches to go with the Belgian Class 1. That would make a reasonable length train for it.

I'm toying with the idea of the Italian set 47107 with the reels of wire load. I have a similar one of these wagons that was issued by Eurotrain a few years ago, so would make a reasonable unit train.

Those among us who run long container trains will have a ball with the additional offerings in the Trix brochure.

I also like the Trix Club Car for 2021.

43651 was released in 2019 and consisted of a single Apm Panorama with an EWIVA and a pair of EWIVB, all equipped with factory LED lighting.
https://www.maerklin.de/...e/details/article/43651?
The 43652 seems to have no lighting (built in). As far as I can tell, the 43651 has a different lighting kit than the 7316.
The 43652 seems to be the same as the ones marketed under 43650 set and the original Swiss limited edition item, which was originally to be sold on the train, on the boat or at key station kiosks only.

It also makes a good addition for anybody wishing to turn the 43672 into the Gotthard Panorama Express or into a typical EC between Munich and Zurich (with 42174).

43651 was released in 2019 and consisted of a single Apm Panorama with an EWIVA and a pair of EWIVB, all equipped with factory LED lighting.

I noticed that. Maybe US models aren’t selling that well. I didn’t understand why they did the Coca-Cola set. Seemed like such a vertical market for that item. Maybe there will be some summer or fall items. Respectfully, I would not be interested in a cab forward.

No they are all over in the LGB offering ... Laugh Laugh Laugh

An Amtrak F7 ABA set, with coaches. A Durango & Silverton loco with a couple of coaches. Oh and a track cleaning loco modeled on a track maintenance loco, and a coca-cola wagon as well ...

The Swiss also seem to do well over in the LGB selection, with not just one, but three versions of the Ge 6/6 I loco, two in brown and one in blue, for the Rhaetian railroad.

I'd like to see how their track cleaning loco works, they have two versions, one for USA and one labeled for Gleisbau. It looks like they have an extra axle on the back end that presumably spins at a different speed to the loco travel, a bit like the Z gauge track cleaner.

Well, I checked the product database for the 47146 and Trix 24146, and both say that they have different road numbers to the other set, so that settles that.

Another FU like Tom (H0) suggested.

I can't understand why this is 'completely new tooling'. I guess they need to change the body for the different year they are modelling, and may have to change the motor from what they have used in the past due to supply issues ... I'm thinking about the freight set that goes with it though.......

The BR194 was way overdue for some new tooling.
I think it was first produced as the 3022 in late 1960s??

For a start, the hand rails around the front and rear sections are no longer molded-on.
The 3022 and successors was driven as far as I know on one set of 3 axles, and was very noisy in most models.
The cardan shaft drive will certainly appeal to many for quite a few reasons.
It is possible that the central body unit retains the original casting if considered good enough for todays clientele.

BR78 seems to be the first steamer having red mark lamp by Marklin.

I noticed diesel locomotive class 77 and 66 which is marked as Dynamic Smoke Exhaust. Is it the same as synchronized smoking?

Also I noticed BR194 is equipped with approach lamp. Can someone explain what approach lamp is ?

Thanks

Marklin insider model BR 65 in 2018 had red marker lights

Anyone knows if tamping machine can run on R1? It is 39.3cm.

The old model was indeed 3022 and it is from 1964 and it was a powerful model from the traction capacity perspective. The model has some records done in the 1990ies. For curiousity that year is my birth year and I have 3022.1.

For a 1964 model the old mould was/is impressive so long it was accepted to keep it in production! I strongly admire such model for all it was and still is!

I think it is time for a completely new tooling and so the newly announced BR194 is welcome.
It could be interesting to keep the old mould series still in production in the classic series as it was lately. Probably it doesn't make so much sense from a business perspective, but that M* knows better.

Florian Sieber said that more and more models will be converted to centrally mounted motors to increase the profit. This year we see this with BR 143 and BR 194.
We might see the old motors in special blue box retro editions, but I don't expect to see them in permanently in the classics series.

Some good news: The track pieces of the 23xxx series are now much cheaper than before. You cannot use those tracks with regular Märklin locos, but you can use them for display or in sidings where no locos go.

Tom
