Hi,
I'm looking to install a simple function only decoder just for controlling the lighting in a coach and was wondering what people use/recommend as it seems the is no Marklin simple function only decoder available any more ( I was looking at the marklin c96 ) .
Preferably one with only one or two functions.

Hi,

The ESU or Viessmann coach lights with integrated decoder are interesting possibilities:

50708 Digital LED lighting strip with integrated Digital decoder and taillight, 255mm, 11 LEDs, „warm-white“

5076 H0 Coach lighting, 11 LEDs yellow, with function decoder (there is also one with warm white light that maybe beter for your needs):

You can have 1 in each coach and have them all configured the same, so what you do to one coach will happen in all of them. Doesn't need to be this way.

I suggest you read the manuals because the extra outputs are a bit different.

Hi, everybody,

If you have an old decoder that you don't use, such as a 6080 or a delta, you can use it only for lighting, which in this case would be dimmable, and the F0 functions of the lights could also be used for lighting, that is, you would get up to 3 lighting functions, 1 dimmable and the others depending on the direction of travel.

In the new ESU Lokpilot brochure they list a 59110 Lokpilot function only decoder for Euro 39. In DCC mode it can understand up to 32 functions, and in Motorola Mode up to 16 functions (i.e. occupying up to 4 Motorola addresses). It doesn't seem to be mfx, but in DCC mode has Railcom. See my post over here for the link to the ESU brochure (German only sorry).

Maybe this would be right for you:

Tams Online

It’s cheaper than LokPilot fx and provides 3 outputs.

But coach lighting with build-in decoder is an easier choice if the coaches don’t already have lights in them.

I use simple ESU function decoder with DCC. Also with ESU analog warm white LED which also do have red tail light to control extra function.

Same here, ESU interior lights are great. Each section can be independently controlled, random effects and all, red rear lights are a great addition too, everything is in the package.
