While seeing Märklin's new Insider model of the SBB/NL TEE 39706 TEE-Dieseltriebzug SBB RAm 501 I thought to myself........ .................Don't I have that but in the 2 rail Trix version? I do! If anyone is interested this is as new as it gets and could be your if you desire. Let me know if you are interested. Has sound and all the bells and whistles, test run only! Any newer you can't get! Since I run Märklin this is redundant. Edited by user 30 November 2019 03:21:59(UTC)
| Reason: Forgot the word “only” I meant to write * test run only.

Not interested as price is too expensive. I have to pass. I have to consider this aspect as well (even if it does come with a heap of passengers), as I retire in three weeks time. So for 2019 we had an electric loco (rangier Croc), a steam loco (Br78), and now a railcar. I'll have to get out my list to go further back to see the 'cycle'. So what would the second Insider model for 2020 be (as in type of loco, not specific Br#)? That would influence my decision.

113-93.5=19.5cm
So the price per centimeter is about half.
You can also use weight instead of length. I don' thave numbers yet, but maybe it will be a bit better for the new one.
If you use motor power as the comparison criteria, then maybe the extra price is for less power...
;-)
The price is high, yes, although I don't know what else could we expect different from the refurbished M* Until now all I read about the model seems perfect. Maybe just diesel smoke like the ESU models have would make the price more acceptable. This said, I must say I use smoke in steamers very rare for keep the air breathable, so it is not something super important for me, specially in a diesel.

For some reason they had two Harold the Helicopters on it, and the small kids were giving them a right telling off - "You can't have two Harolds!!!". So you can't have two 4014 Big Boys, yah hear?

Perhaps one of our German speaking friends can verify. @Bart post #69 stated the 2 kg, mentioned in the video. Also in the second video at the Insider page (see @steventrain post #55 too) at 2:00 min the question is raised about the gauge. Mr. Grässle answered the gauge is fully 1:87 and all bodies are made by metal. This gives this model a special interest. Also nowhere is mentioned, if the TEE will have travellers on board. Probabely too expensive for 900 €. Also a Diesel steaming pipe is missing. Probabely expensive too.

Order deadline is 31 March 2020, is there any mention of the delivery date - presumably Q2 / Q3 2020?
Also, "The minimum radius for operation is 437.5 mm / 17-1/4". The train can also be run on Radius 1 if you ignore the clearance gauge."

Going price for the good old 3471 is around 200 Euro. It has a metal hood motor unit. For the other 700 Euro my wife and I can eat and drink a month. I know what to do. My next target is the 30345 DB E41 for around 100 Euro. |

Regarding price. Insiders feel special and will pay for something only they can get and thus Marklin can charge what they like knowing they will get sales. This model is not for me but I do have insider models without being an insider which I can get from a dealer at a discount. The cost for this model is high but I suppose it keeps Marklin going which is important ...so pay up guys and buy lol. |
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer. |

The price is very high, although it seems wil lbe a very good model. Considering the powered car is 400€ (it is just a metal diesel), each of the non powered cars is more than 150€, something that doesn't make much sense.
This price was much more acceptable if, in addition to what we know the 39706 will be, it will also have: 1- Smoke synchronized with the "diesel motor" state; 2- The inside fittings (chairs, table, compartments, etc) painted to correct colours 3- Passengers inside.
One thing that doesn't help in this case is the fact that the 39706 is an MHI model and it is not so easy to find discounts in dealers for MHI models. I would be happier if this was a non-MHI item.
I have the 39700 and despite all I wrote above the new 39706 is a model I want and, if all goes well, I will buy it. Indeed the RAm in 1:87 full metal was, and is, my number 1 wish about model trains. I will keep the 39700 as I like it. Going to the 39706 makes me skip for now the new croco and probably the ICE 4. |
Best regards, Miguel

If this had been done as a Northlander then I would probably stretch my finances to get it, but I already have a 3471 + extra coach, so I think will give this one a miss and hope the second Insider model is less expensive. And for the price I am disappointed it doesn't have passengers.

Will the final design that Märklin ultimately be delivering of this long-awaited retooling of the RAm TEE be ruined by the addition of those unsightly movable flaps over the bogies, which was the case with the Gottardo, the VT 8 and the Henschel-Wegmann, so that it can negotiate the sharp curves? I hope not! |

Believe it or not, I’m an accountant. Alas, useless without my adding machine! I will likely buy the model, as I do have all the Insiders.... |

Armando, please don't start that forum war again.....
If it has to have unsightly flaps to get around R1 curves, so be it. Marklin advise that the railcar is more suitable on R2 curves or above but you can use it on R1 if you take into account extra track clearance required.

I'll second what Nigel has posted. Now that Märklin has told us what they have in store for us, I'm wondering if they are going to issue a new “Ontario Northlander” in the near future?
Two of us think so what does the rest of the members think?

Well, if Marklin has created new die cast molds for 39706 TEE RAm, then they will want to sell as many models as possible to get a return on the investment. Therefore I would think a new 'Northlander' is highly likely.

Ohhhh... That presumed new Northlander will probably be around EUR/USD 999 or such, regarding the expected price of the standard TEE one... |
