However I will never drive a steamer with a mobile phone which is used only for calls etc. The new product looks OK but could be too pricey to be worth buying. Anyway not only dinner Dave but I am not late for lunch as well...and it is almost time now.

At their current update timeline though it will meet or surpass the interface on the CS3 before too long, and the CS3 will be the computer hosting the main layout processing of all digital functions and controlled by various web interfaces, including its own. That is an excellent concept that makes their system more versatile and easier to use for a lot of different users and I think that everyone benefits.

The original equipment maker Massoth is selling a controller that looks identical from the outside and is both readily available and a little bit cheaper. Therefore, I was tempted to cut out the middle man. Now research revealed that the two controllers are „same, same, but different“ (see below link for more details). Good idea. Because the difference will be the compatibility with the CAN-Bus from Märklin. Whereas the Massoth radio receiver 8131001 is compatible with the DiMAX-Bus from Massoth or PIKO-Gartenbahn. For PIKO-H0 are different solutions availbale. For Maerklin you must use the RC3 radio receiver from Maerklin or LGB (both art #55057), which are compatible with the Maerklin CAN-Bus.

In a world already saturated with mobile phones and cheap home Wi-Fi the chances of interference (and consequentially less range) is very high.. Perhaps they assume that anyone with a garden railway lives on acreage..

Also I am the right way up but those down under might need a version made upside down. Yes, I would need an upside down right handed version, which when right side up would be a left handed version. The handheld controller should work fine providing it isn't made for Marklin by Lord Lucas, the Prince of Darkness. Then we will need dark suckers to suck the dark out of the controller so that it will work again.

When would you have issued the new controllers? In May? Then the Australians and Kiwis can have the same concern as you got. On the other hand are the Scandinavians very, very experienced with snow clearance. Why not with am MRR garden railroad too? Some ideas presented at You Tube Seeing this videos I get a new feeling for playing with a garden MRR in snow. Why do you want to wait a few months? No need for it. Do snow clearance. BTW these snow fountains are looking quite funny to me.

In December, when it is too cold for you to play outside, it is too hot for us (30-40C) so we are inside our air-conditioned train rooms.. In winter, when it is usually a nice 25C in the daytime, we are outside with our Gauge 1 railways..

My eCOS 2 has developed a problem with the RH side of the screen.. Fortunately, for me my layout is computer controlled so my need to access the eCOS 2 screen directly is minimal. I was disappointed that ESU did not announce an eCOS 3 in their new items catalogue. So, it looks like I will have to go the Marklin way later this year..

There are glitches that need to be fixed though. I fear all their development time will now be spent on the new controller and the web control server will languish. (Why give away something for free when you can charge what the market will bear?)

That is their one size fits all remote access solution and their current path forward. It improves on and replaces the old MainStation app and a CS3 can now be controlled by anything with a browser, with no additional (and expensive) software. I think it is a great step forward. I think the LGB thing was poorly thought out and died a natural death. A mobile browser sounds good for an outdoor setting but it was more of a novelty and not really needed in tough economic times. On the other hand a wireless Mobile Station makes a lot of sense to me, and I know it has been discussed before. It has a very functional interface that many people already know and a physical knob, but not tethered by a cord. If I were a product engineer at Märklin, I would give that idea a good, long look.
