Hello again folks !!
Like to show you a zincpest-issue on a Märklin F800 steamer.Must bee careful when buying these old trains,things may bee
not as it seams on the first look.
Bought this from a privat seller i Oslo.Not him to blame as the lokomotive vas stored away for decades,and seller has
no experience with old Märklin stuff.
So it depends how it is stored,i guess it must be stored dry too prevent this from happening.And of course during poor
zincquality postwar this appears on a lot of models. So have this in mind when buying.Here are som pictures.

That's a bit of a bugger. I don't think these are that rare so you might use that one as spares for another one. Is it all zinc pest or has it just been roughly handled. Not sure if you could repair it as the metal is quite thin and probably not enough room for a thicker section to be grafted on.

Hello dominator!!
Its zincpest all right,its cracked everywhere.The pieces shown did i broke out with a screwdriver.The hole frame is full of cracks.If you zomm out the picture you can see
even the red airtank is cracked.i have never seen zincpest on a F800 before.But i have got a complete new frame from a german seller on EBAY.
And as allways it has outstanding quality.So the F800 is now complete and nearly as new.

The method of storage has no effect on the progression of Zinkpest. It is time that does it.

Yes its sad with this issue regarding postwar models.I have allways been lucky with bying the ccs800 st800 dt 800 dl800
they have never had any,exept one boggie on the st800.Its wery dangerous bying some of these maschines because somtimes
you will not be able too se the cracks.It broke apart when i was servicing the gears.So maybee there is more on this
loko but i dont thing i will try finding out.the model works fine now,i repaired it with superglue.The glue works really
good on this metal.

I don't agree. The method of storage has an effect on the progress of zinkpest - by change of temperature and humidity !!

Hello again !!
Yes i also think that storage is a part of this.Air cold/heat working over long period,and wet condition in the room i think
increase the process.Bad metalquality back in those days are the head cause i guess.
And it is a sad issue that the most beautiful models are made of bad quality zinkmetal and probably be destroyed in
a distant future.They scould built them in brass like the E800 LMS,but ofcourse it had been too expensive.
