Lutz said the price came up 22 Sept onwards. That's no price - just a (guessed) date ... While we are at it (guessing comes easy, hehe ) - my best bet is about the same as CS1. More won't work in today's market ... [}:)] |

John. Hope I am wrong but i would expect an increase of around 20% - 25% on the old CS. M needs the cash and knows the enthusiasts will buy the new CS.

Marklin has released details in English (See RJF trains, Euro Model Trains, or AJCKIDS). Pricing is supposed to be available in two weeks. |

I reviewed the data on the .pdf document from rjftrains.com.
It has a built in power source and track diagram control board !
Seems really impressive to me.
Pretty impressive.

[size=2]Hi! I tried downloading the PDF document from RJF Trains but I can't seem to find the URL/ link. The only piece of document that I can download is the new system architecture PDF. Apppreciate if someone can point me to the correct URL. Thanks a bunch!!

I read somewhere that the EcosBoost cannot be used with the CS2 (may have been on this forum, not sure though). Does anyone have details of whether the 60173 booster works with the CS1?

An interesting comment about some of the functionality when translating the Model Centrum update
Convey delay and brake delay also for decoder WITHOUT this functionality
Looks like you can adjust the speed curve for a loco without acceleration and braking functionality (6080 and delta chips) via the CS2 to make it appear that they have it. Sounds like a cool feature to me.

yes, cool feature, but only during manual control of the loco. It would be interesting to know how it will be handled in front of signals. If you have isolated track or braking module, than it is useless, the 6080/delta loco will stopp suddendly anyway. Maybe a function is foreseen, that the CS follows the loco on the layout and can punctually give a stop command to the loco when a certain contact is closed. A new mfx feature? This would save a lot of braking modules rgds Stephan

yes this is the type of thing one can do with computer control - the CS2 is a computer. I have been doing this since 1989 with a PC |

That is exactly how I run my layout. see http://layout.mixmox.com/1/computer_controlQuote:[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote: A new mfx feature?
This does not need mfx at all. It has been possible since day one. Quote:[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote: This would save a lot of braking modules indeed. Braking modules are analog devices and are simply redundant in a properly designed digital system. |

Hello Dale,
you are right, with a PC it is an old feature, but only in automatic or halfautomatic runs.
This would be great if this would function without the computer. Not everyone wants to have a computer on the side of the layout. I work with PC all day, so I want to run my layout without it, by randomizing the runs manually. The PC I will use it only for full automatic runs, to observe the trains running on my layout.

but that is exactly my point, this is a computer ! It just lives in a smaller case and has a small screen. You can plug in a keyboard, you can plug in a mouse, you can plug it into your LAN! |

this CS2 does sound much better than the CS and there is less emphasis on the mfx nonsense. They even have a card reader so that loco information can be uploaded - instead of trying to get it from the loco a la mfx...
As before, time will tell if they make the computer interface rich enough to allow really great external software to run the layout |

I've been watching this for some time. As a rule, I try not to be first with any new item. When half of you folks have one and you've worked out all the bugs and are happy, I may bite. It's called "Robert's rule" and is based on long experience with technology which comes from my 35 years in basic research at UC. Very few things are as good as they seem, but it does happen. I will be happy to work out the bugs.
I had no issues with my MS at all.
I had no issues with my CS1
Both were early production models.
So maybe, some people are better at adapting to new technology than others.
Some people have a lot of problems with computers, and some do not.
So, I am brave and adaptable.
But it will be in Europe early - first batch. US (me) will probably get second batch in early 2009. |

True but early 2009 fits better with the money picture.
Early 2009 is the start of a new years train budget.
I keep having over runs - I do not understand. |

Goofy says Quote:[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote:Why should you been a sucker, when you did ordered an marklin stuff...? Because we all feel so stupidly ignorant of how Märklin actually make this stuff. I have about as much chance of getting myself to the moon, as making something as complex as a Märklin loc, let alone a CS. That's why I like Märklin, admire it, buy it. I believe I speak for most forum members. Sucked in ? - yes I admit it. regards Kimball |

The price is between €700 and €1,000 for the CS2 - Source Stummi forum.[:0] |

700-1000 euros? That's a big price spread. At 700 euros, well that's about $1550 NZ, and 1000 euros would be about $2200 NZ, which is twice the price of the current CS1 (NZ $1100). At those prices levels I cannot see many NZ Marklin enthusiasts wanting to jump in and buy. If the CS2 is offered cheaper in a starter set for under $2000 NZ, there may be some takers, but not at $2200 for the CS2 alone.

At the price of 700euros i'd be right on the borderline of buying one especially as the aussie dollar has fallen a lot over the last month

Agreed Peter! I only hope Marklin aren't going to price themselves off the market. There aren't enough new features over and above the CS1 to justify buying a CS2.
