Well I did something I thought I never would do. Only a few days ago I sent Bigdaddynz an email saying I would wait a long while before I bought the new CS.
In the mean time, I got an insider offer for the new 39013 01 loco for $679.
I thought, Euromodeltrains has a pre order for the CS2 for $669.

It's ordered (CS2) - I guess I will be one of the people to suffer through debugging this time. I will certainly keep one of my 6021s for backup. I am excited about the new one where as the first one did not get me moving.
We will see.
Eric

According to a witness involved in a discussion at the Marklin "road-show"( Stummi forum) :
First batchs of CS2 started to be produced in February 2008 to be sent to Beta-Testers...
From the beginning It tooks almost 2 years ( a little bit less )to developp it with a team of about 15 people within Marklin walls at Stuttgart street - Goppingen . No Viessmann, no ESU in any way , were involved into the developpment of CS2 .
So they took 6 months already to fix bugs ...
( sorry for my poor English )
King Flash, you should move to NZ. Here, the NZD has strengthend against the USD, after falling for some time. Most likely we would get slugged 12.5% GST (VAT) on something over $400 coming into the country, but this is not always the case. So, assuming USD30 postage, the CS2 would cost around NZD1020 plus a possible 12.5% making a total of around $1150. The CS1 retailed here for anything between $1100 to $1400.

NZ retail price for the CS2 is NZ$1369 - see www.toottoot.co.nz

The price I state in my previous post was based on bringing in a unit from overseas - the US or maybe Germany.

I think the pricing isn't too bad, considering the CS1 was $1100 from the same dealer. For your extra $220 (above bringing a CS2 in from overseas) you get local support and warranty repairs. Not too bad!

Anyone have an idea what the Mega Starter set with this is likely to cost?

Cheers....

It could be between 1000 and 1100 EUR for the Mega starter set (two sound locos).

I would suggest a mega start set with two sound locos for 1300 euros less whatever the discount dealers can do.

David
