My sincere apologies for the bad quality, it's more like a snapshot as I did not have time to make real pictures...
The other 8 GT 2 x 4/4's (in fact all models made by Märklin in this series, except for some stupid silver and gold editions) are, like all the track and controlling equipement, still in the Netherlands. So, no testing possible.

@ Lutz: Two questions:
(1) is the 37963 (weathered one) officially not a Deutsche Bundesbahn instead of DRG?
(2) how did you add the smoke generator to the 3796? Originally, it is not prepared for that, is it?

Hi Lutz

I am the proud owner of the K.Bay.Sts.B. Reihe Gt 2 x 4/4 (37961) and would love to install a smoke generator. Your description of how to install it is great but do you know if - and how - I can connect the smoker to the existing decoder in the 37961?

Maybe it is better to take this into account: The bauart 1913 (37961, 37964 and 37966) comes with a somewhat narrower chimney, therefore, you might need to use 72270 instead of 7226. And then, it will probably be hard, as there is no room to stick that 72270 into the chimney from below.

Hi,

I haven't tested it extensively but it runs very well, incredibly silent. Yesterday I had the chance to compare it with a Roco BR64 (a very pretty model) and I think the Märklin looks even better. The details are more sharp, less ... well.. plastic.

I recently recounted my locos, I'm now at 31.

If you look at the 2nd post in this thread you see that it takes about 2.5y for my number of locos to double.

Given that I'm about 28y old, and that according to statistics I will live beyond an age of 70y, I will probably own 1015808 locos when my time is up biggrinwink.

That makes me think of expanding the layout a little bit [:o)]

Quoted by Bert, regarding natural growth in his Marklin locomotive numbers.
Quote:
[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote:..... about 28y old, and that according to statistics I will live beyond an age of 70y, I will probably own 1015808 locos when my time is up

However, Bert you must surely weight this with some variables or constants.
For example if you get married, or are already married, you have to use a weighting equivalent to a constant, somewhere between 0.5 and 0.001 multiplation factor. You are the only person who will know this weighting factor, depending on domestic issues. [:I]

If you get children, you may have to put a "freeze" in the calculation of between 15 - 25 years. Then of course, after that time, there will be a sudden increase weighting required, such as 2 or 3 multiplication factor.wink

+1

I was browsing in a local model shop today when I spotted a 3307 marked as "Bought as seen, £30". I slid the inner tray out to check, it was perfect but missing the wrap around plastic packaging. So I decided to risk it, as I know older Marklin locos are easy to fix.

Upon getting it home and taking the shell off to check the innards, I found a 6090 decoder and five pole motor. Very well fitted, all joints protected by heat shrink. I hooked it up to the MS and after a few drops of oil it runs as perfectly as it looks. I can only assume the shop was unable to test it. A real bargain as you'd pay three times that for the digital conversion alone, let alone a near mint 3307! Photos to follow when the light is better.

Thomas and Matt, very nice locos!

Matt, the Wurttemberg "American style" coaches (4210 - 4214) would go well with your T18, I think.

Thanks Ray - those were the ones I'd spotted. I also liked the look of the KPEV close-coupled pairs of six wheel coaches (4207-4210) but obviously they're not right. Thinking this one will probably end up with a mixed train of passengers and freight.

Brawa have some gorgeous Wurttemberg coaches but they're £40 each, and I'm not paying more for individual coaches than I did for the loco!
