Yeah - you do this quite successfully, Nikos Well, best countries for striking gold when looking for long time discontinued M locos are southern Germany and northwestern Austria. Top quality stuff, most of the time. A bit expensive but worth every single Cent ... |

Friends - "expensive" is relative, indeed, and those excellent C-Sinus Gators give a good example: The light green, regular production (still, since I guess with the rise of mfx this is the very last year) E194 #39223 carries a quite hefty €340.- price tag, today. On the other hand, with extensive searching (forget about the web dealers, this is serious brick & mortar business) and a bit of luck, two years back I paid "only" €260.- for the grey, year 2000 limited production E94 #39221, and this week "only" €270.- for the emerald green, year 2001 limited production E1020 #39222 ... Dear Lutz, could you please make the pictures a bit smaller? The suggested maximum width is 640px so it is easy for everyone to see & doesn't break the forum layout... Very nice pics though... |

I know, Nikos - no problem at all ... ***** Well, all that fuzz about M and the banks has triggered one thing inside me: I'll have to buy still more of those beautyful old heavy metal Gators - who knows how long they'll be available and what the new owners intent will be. Since they've really killed the truly excellent Big C-Sinus in favor of some mediocre mouse motor (would you rip off that 5Litre V8 from your S500 and insult him with an anemic four banger ???) we can imagine easily their next step: an E94 or CE6/8 made entirely of plastic ... [xx(][xx(][xx(] Seems #39223 & #39560 will be the last top-of-the-line Gators - the end of an era John post scriptum: While typing this one of my old green beasts is going circles around my notebook. On M-track, powered by an old blue transformer. What a look, what a sound ... [:p][:p][:p] |

Today is the day that i shall receive my GG-1(37490). One factor that forced me to buy that loco is the weight of it. The heavier, the better(one basic principle in MRR). Further info will be given when i will test that loco-mystery. |

Thanks, Nikos - it was a long search for finding a mint model. She had a good sleep in her box for 26 years, untouched, never ran. Thus she needed only minor servicing: her tractions tires had warped over the decades (first run looked a bit funny), the reverse unit spring had become way too long, and the motor bearings & gears were bone dry. But no verharzung, all parts moved just nicely. Easy fix. She's one smooth and extremely silent runner, so I'll preserve her in original analog condition |

No big secret - only a few conclusions, Nikos:
1. The big C-sinus motor isn't compatible with MFX since M refused to do that. Talk about savings (which is a bogus since it's aficcionados gladly pay more for it)
2. Newly released Gator #37224 got no big C-sinus, anymore. Just the mediocre 5-pole motor. Back to cheaps. To put it clearly - I really like those 5-poles. In certain models. But here the big one is far superior. And if there's no big one - in a slow 'n heavy E94 a good old LFCM beats any 5-pole forty miles by sunday. 3. The very last of the big C-sinus Gators #39223 & #39560 (though still in the 2006 catalog) carry already the yellow light in the product data base. A sure sign of dissappearing, soon ...

Just catching up on some threads. CASTRATED KROKODIL? [:0] [V][V] [:(!][:(!] just kidding I guess it reminds you of what it reminds you. It reminded me of a growing Kroc. The Seetal and regular croc look great on the tracks when they are beside each other going around R1 curves, the articulated frame well suited for R1 curves...could almost call it prototypical if you cared about that. John ps are you sure you didn't mean circumsized?

I fully agree with that John . Wasn't it Caroll Shelby who said "Nothing beats cubic inches!",or was it Henry Ford? And yes I think Märklin made a big mistake by discontinuing that marvelous big C-sine motor. It surprises me anyhow why they have so many different motortypes for their big locomotives.Wouldn't one be more practical and in the end lower production costs? Kind regards Guus |

[xx(]) ad 2) Well, you're right, again - and that's what they're doing, now. With LFCM (great for old heavy metal analog locos) gone and C-SINUS (the smoothest runner on the planet when it comes to modern heavy metal digital engines) almost gone (alas [xx(] !!!) there're only two left for propelling big locos - DCM and FAULHABER. If those two were my only choice (tomorrow ) - I'd prefer the FAULHABER for it's (relatively) smooth running characteristics. Whatever will be with M - nobody can stop us today in blazing away at our dealers' stock and ripping out those LFCM/C-SINUS classics. As long as they are there ... Happy hunting, John |

Sorry for the dumb question, since I am pretty new to MRR. Is that gator in 1 Gauge scale? Is that why people love 1 Gauge so much because it is so life like, not to mention suitable for outdoor layout? John, you do have a nice gator there. Let her in and roll on your tracks [}:)][}:)] |
Still beginner, no layout, random buying O-gauge, 3R Scale US Steamers (avatar is not of my collection, but the models are nice) Märklin HO anything :-) |

Don't worry too much about him, Neville. It's only Donald, and he's a cute lil' one of generally good nature. He just doesn't like Mothers-in-Law ... so anything in the food line will do [}:)] Great shot [:p][:p][:p] John |

An outsider. I'm looking for the owner of that horse. He's tall, blonde, he smokes a cigar, and he's a pig!
