Hey guys, I have a 451 crane without the instructions, magnet, or the switch box. I just made a new switch box for an old 410 turntable and I'm thinking about making one for my crane. I've seen pics of the original switch, but I don't know exactly what wires control what. Mine has two reds, two blacks, a brown and a yellow.

Also, is it possible to make a new magnet? This is my dad's old stuff that I'm just getting it up and running and I'd love to get it going in a vintage set-up. Any info on the instruction manual, magnet and switch would be greatly appreciated.

Troy, you can easily pick up a new magnet for the crane off ebay.de, just search for märklin hebemagnet.

As I said in your other post, you can use a standard 7072 control panel with the crane. As for the wires, there should be a brown wire, which gets connected to the brown output on the transformer. The yellow output from the transformer goes to the input of the 7072 switch. There should be 5 other wires - 2 red and 2 black and one yellow. I can't remember which is which, but one pair controls the hook raising and lowering, and the other the crane rotation. The yellow wire is for the cabin light and magnet activation. All 5 get connected to the 7072 switch - each pair to a separate bank of red/green buttons. The yellow connects to one of the green outputs on the 7072. Hope this helps.

I'll give that a try. I have a 7072 that was probably left in someone's attic because it has been warped by heat. Only two sets of buttons work. I was leaning toward making one because the Marklin switch feels cheap to me (maybe because mine is in such poor shape), and I wanted something more durable. Thanks for the info on the wire designations. Now I can start messing.

I just found a very old magnet on the German eBay. I say it's old because the wires coming off of it are not color coded like the other wires I have. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for your help.

It works!! The motor for the magnet makes some noise, but it gets better the more I use it. Thanks for your help.

Troy,
Did you email me a week ago regarding the instruction manual?
If so I do apologise, my pc has crashed burnt & died along with my emails, so I am stuck either with the work 'puter or our lap-top.
Please email me again if you still require the manual and I'll see what I can do.

Regards
