I haven't done this, but I have seen plenty of articles/YouTube videos showing people who have (although I can't remember any that showed how they did it). Perhaps you could have a go and post the process and results here?

"But there is also the 'Atlas editions' collectable static model advertised quite widely with its accompanying Gresley teak coaches. I've been chopping one of these about recently to motorise it with encouraging results.

In this shot you can see where I have carved the inside of the cab and boiler to make room. I found that the Marklin motor was just a bit fat at the top and was splaying the cab sides out. The guys on trainboard were very helpful and assured ne that you could take a bit of meat off the outside of the motor without affecting the performance. The knife points to the area in question."

Related 2018 JNS forum post:

I’ve also motorised one of the Atlas narrow gauge railcars.I took the diecast metal chassis out and removed the various protruding bits with a razor saw and a mill file. I then inverted it and put it back inside the shell. It's supported by the window glazing at just the right height. To power it I'm using is a Greenmax No.5716 20m mechanism, which has almost the same bogie wheelbase and overall wheelbase as the static chassis. The mech will simply attach to the metal chassis with double sided tape.

I dismantled the bogie frames and attached the sides to the Greenmax bogies using short lengths of 1mm brass wire to locate them and reinforce the glued joint.

Illustrated German blog entries, but apparently only for dummy locomotives or passenger wagons?

Four years ago, a German hobbyist converted a TEE Edelweiss Z gauge 1:220 Atlas static model. Amongst other things, he recycled an E103 elcectric loco chassis and installed a bell armature motor with flyweight next to re-working the bogies - see German Youtube video documentation of the process:

Two different hobbyists motorized a Vindobona VT 18.16 Z gauge 1:220 and documented the conversion, respectively.

This gent recycled an electric loco chassis and a Roco twin shaft motor. In addition, the bogies were replaced - see German video:

And a German video by another hobbyist focusing on the electronic aspects:
