First there is only one way for the card to go into the slot and I have tried every way. But thanks to Johnjean's pictures I think I must have the wrong card as it looks like his two pictures had a child and my card was the result. It has the configuration of the larger one but does not have the knobs on the far left and the two top contacts are closer together. It is older so perhaps of an earlier type. And I purchased it for a camera. But it does go into my laptop.
Johnjean, have you ever looked into the memory card to see what is in it? I am hoping to solve a problem with a club CS3+ that might be the result of having reached the capacity of its internal memory. There are well over 100 locos on it and that must use up a lot of memory. Just not sure what ends up on the card.

I have used a SD card in my own and in the club CS3+, without problems the last 3 years.

I recommend a 32 GB card of the type Class 10 or U1 for speed indication.

In the club we have 400+ locomotives in the locomotive list more than 200 elements in the article list.

I allways make backups to the SD card, so the backups are not filling up the memory in the CS3.

MARKLIN CS 3 / 3+ - SD-CARD SPECIFIKATIONS :

SD-CARD ( Maximum 32 GB ) - Mini SD-Card can alos be used with the supplied "Adapter" for the Mini SD-Card

Remember that the SD-CARD must not be "Locked" for Writing ( Push the Slider on the SD-Card to allow Writing to the SD-Card )

The SD-Card has to be Formatted in : FAT32 or VFAT

On newer Software-Updates for CS 3 / 3+ the "cs3"-directory and 6 Sub-dirctory's is created the first time the SD-Card is inserted into the SD CARD-Slot

- backup ( Backup-files for your CS 3 / 3+ saved by you or by the CS 3 / 3+ when an Online-Update is performed )

- lokcvs ( CV-Profiles for Locomotiv-Decoders )

- lokicons ( Loc-icons in 384 x 144 Pixel / PNG file-format )

- magcvs ( CV-Profiles for Magnetartikel-Decoders )

- pics ( Files i SVG-format which can be used for Events "Erignisse" ) - 303 SVG Image-files ( 2 MB ) copied

- wav ( Sound-files in WAV-format 44.1 HZ Stereo is copied to 14 Category-directorys in the in wav-directory ) - 650 Sound-files ( 150 MB ) copied

to support the User's of CS 3 / 3+.

Remember to always "eject" the SD-Card under the CS 3 / 3+ Systems-Settings before removing the SD-Card. ( Lost som data on the SD-Card because of this )

A final solution. Thanks for all the help. it turns out that my CS3+ rejects SDHD cards. The problem was not that I had the wrong physical size card. It kept ejecting the card and never allowed it to seat. I finally had the opportunity to bring the same card to a different CS3+ and it seated properly. Strangely enough the second CS3+ would not eject the card and I had to pry if out with a pin. Next step is to insert the card into the club CS3+ to see if it makes a difference. That will happen this weekend. I will bring a pin in case the eject also does not work.

I did not try to "pry open" the card. In my CS3+ nothing I could do would cause the card to stay in. Even holding it all the way in while turning on the CS3 failed to either secure it or recognize it. In the second CS3 the card did lock in and the CS3 recognized it but when I chose eject nothing happened and the back of the card was flush with the CS3 making grabbing it impossible without moving it out slightly with a pin. This weekend I will get to try the same card in a third CS3+. In fact I just decided to bring two different SDHD cards to see if the problem is the card.

Telling the cs3 software to eject the card will not physically eject it, it only closes down all the OS connections to files on the card so they are all properly closed before physically ejecting the card.

As Jean says, having done the software close down you then need to push the card into the slot to release the spring that will then push it out of the slot. You don't need to pry it with a pin or anything.

The cs3 that the card will not physically go into sounds like it has a faulty card slot. It could be worth dismantling the cs3 to see if you can work out what has happened to the card holder.

This is the one I'm saying has a faulty SD card connector.


This is where you need to push the card in further and that will release the catch that holds it and allows a spring to push it out to where you can grab it.



This is another style of SD card connector where the makers don't care if the user manages to damage the card. The cs3 has a different style of socket.
