I'm using C-track and digital with MS2's.
Layout trackwise is complete and screwed down, still scenic work to do but currently installing OHL equipment.
Today, having a bit of a test running session, I noticed one point is not responding to digital commands.
No noise - nothing. Still works manually though.
Now I'm in a bit of a conumdrum. Do I lift it and repair or leave as it is?
The point concerned is under the wires at the station throat.
To unscrew and lift several sections of track, and to dis-assemble the wires above would be a major headache.
I'm thinking of just leaving it as a manual point, as at least it is easily accessable, although that
sort of defeats the point of the layout being digitally operated.
What would you do in this situation?

I'd pull it up because it would annoy me immensely having gone to the expense of digital for points if it wasn't working, which is why I decided to stick to analogue pounts after a little trial of a couple of point decoders.

In a test phase one generally doesn't want to have things tied, screwed or glued too much down :-)
Nothing wrong with having manually operated turnouts on a digital layout if it's planned that way... or if it happens on an old layout that you have had fun with for years and don't want to bother with having to disassemble and fix something that doesn't work perfectly anymore.
The problem could be a simple connection issue but it could also be the well known problem with Marklin turnout motors (something with the built in micro switch connection failing). It's a relative simple fix but you have to disconnect the motor, open it up and do some soldering to make it work flawlessly for years to come. I have done it on a few of mine too.

What would you do in this situation? You should had jigsaw a hole on the table top for the turnouts motor and turnout decoder for better service underneath. That´s way i confuse use C-tracks. |
