New 60215 with loose acreen - What to do? UPDATE - Solved!!

Hi All About 6 months ago I sold my 60214 to a friend with the intention of getting a 60215 as I also run LGB so the 5 Amps would prove useful. Finally my dealer, who I was 500 Euros in credit with, got stock of the 60061 PSUs last week. So my 60215 and PSU arrived on Saturday. As we have the builders in at the moment (When they turn up!, it was this morning before I got it out of the box to try it. I was expecting an unboxed one for the price of Euro 579 including the 60061, but both were retail boxed. I think the dealer looked after me as I have had a really long wait. Powered up fine, latest software loaded 2.0.1 all works fine, however........ The touchscreen does not appear to be firmly fixed in the casing. If I touch the bottom of the screen it moves, maybe only 1 to 2 mm, but it moves, and makes a slight tap as it does so. It has been a while, but I don't remember my 60214 screen moving? So it is annoying rather than a dealbreaker, but what to do? It weighs over 3KG so the return cost to Germany is high. I am guessing that the screen is screwed in to the top half of the casing so I would only need to tighten 1 or 2 screws. BUT there is a Warranty Void If Removed sticker over one of the screw holes on the underside. 1) Has anybody opened up their Central Station? If so, can you remove the warranty sticker undamaged with a sharp knife, or is it one of those clever ones that shows VOID if you tamper with it? 2) Should I just live with it until the 2 year warranty is up? CS2s seem reliable, what are the chances of me needing a warranty claim? 3) Could there be any unseen damage inside, i.e. if the CS2 has been dropped in the factory? 4) Does anybody else with a CS2 have movement at the bottom half of their screen? Many Thanks Ashley Edited by user 24 April 2012 20:15:50(UTC)

Hi Ashley,
Just checked my CS2 and there is no play anywhere on the screen, using finger pressure all the way around the edge.
Difficult choice you have........sorry.
Let us know what you decide.

Thanks Ian,
I'm considering opening it up at the moment, as I really don't want to pay the postage to return it and wait for the usual 3 months for Marklin to return it. I just want to play trains!

Hi Ashley,
What happens if you open it up, breaking the seal, and the CS2 then doesn't work at all.
Think carefully my friend....you can still use/play with it at the moment.
Ian.

To AshleyH and other users of the CS2 (60215)
My screen on the 60215 does also make a click sound when screen is pressed in the bottom, but not when pressing in top of screen.
I Have tried a 60214 at my friend, that one does the same thing.
I Dont think you have to be afraid that there is something wrong with your CS 2, the CS2 i have works perfectly without any problems. |

Ian
Good advice, my wife is also telling me not to break the warranty seal!
Frank,
Thank you for the info, but can you also feel the screen move a little at the bottom?
Best Regards Ashley

I send CS2 unit only back to Germany for Marklin repair last year.
CS2 unit only weight under 2kgs with package. Do not included cable/transformer/booklet.
Repair cost up to 250 Euro if you open the CS2 unit. |

To Ashley
My CS2 screen can not be mooved at the bottom of the screen. It is only when you press on the screen at the bottom, that one can heat a little "click" sound coming from the screen. |

My two cents: I'll be also of the idea that if it works leave it in peace.

Many thanks to all of you for your wise and thoughtful advice.
I am pleased to report back that a solution has been found, which may be of use to any others with a similar issue.
I took the CS2 round to a friends for a second opinion. He also convinced me not to break the warranty seal. He then suggested trying a small piece of card under the gab between the screen and the casing.
So firstly, I tried the corner of one of the plastic bags that the track connection cables were packed in. Amazingly enough, this worked perfectly, so after a few minutes we managed to fashion a small piece only about a mm wide and 2 or 3 mm long. We gradually eased this under the edge of the screen at the bottom, and hey presto, a result.
No more screen movement or clicking, I can only conclude that the top casing may be slightly out by a mm or so allowing the screen to move. This now totally invisible fix has solved it completely. Warranty unaffected and no postage to Germany!
Hope this is of help to others
Best Regards Ashley
