Hi all,

Can anyone advise when the DB changed passenger coach lighting from the old yellow lighting to the new flouro lighting that the warm white led represents?
Also, does anyone know of older coaches such as schürzenwagens had the lights replaced, or did the continue with the old style yellow lights through Tera 3?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Hi, Mike,

I only remember seeing coaches with electric lights.

The yellow lights are gas lights. Light bulbs have warm-white light, neon lights are usually cold-white.

If coaches have replications of generators (dynamos) at the trucks, then I would assume they have electric lights.

This article says that experiments with electric lights in trains started 1881.

The first post here indicates that coaches used electric lights after about 1949.

This post indicates that gas lights were forbidden in Switzerland as of 1924:

In 1923 a coach caught fire from the gas light after an accident.

Thanks Tom,

I guess the 12 ESU yellow light kits I have may have been a mistake! Would be nice if I could use them on the schürzenwagens.

Cheers….

The interior lights interact with the colour of the interior. Make a test with one of them. If it has the light-brown interiors then maybe the yellow lights will look quite good.
Lights should not be too bright for a Schürzenwagen IMHO.

I will have to order a few warm white kits for the era 3 commuter trains and d-zug trains.

I’ll try the yellow in the schurzenwagen and see how I get on.

While on the subject of lighting and interiors, do you have any photos of the inside of silberlinge sand mitteleinsteigwagen in the area behind the control cab?

Cheers…..

As Tom (H0) said, the yellow tends to look like gas lighting, so would be used in very old coaches. But I reckon the warm white is supposed to be tungsten lamps, and the cool white represent fluorescent lamps.
