Hi,

I have bought a Märklin Decoder Programmer 60971 for programming mLD/3 and mSD/3 decoders, I am using a 6021 for my layout so I thought this would be a lot easier to program with.

I have a problem with it though, when I put a decoder on the 21MTC interface, the decoder software registers the decoder, and I can program it just fine.
When I however connect a decoder with the NEM652 interface I get a "Decoder doesnt respond" error (I am using decoders 60983 link for my small trains).
The trains with the 60983 decoders are working just fine on the track with functions and all, and I can program them with my 6021. But for all intents it should be working with the decoder programmer also.

I have asked Märklin customer support, but havent heard back yet. Is there anyone here who has experienced the same error or knows what I am doing wrong?

Hi
What you describe shows (I think)
- the decoder programmer is working fine
- chances are the issue is with the NEM 652 compliance issue

60971 Users manual https://static.maerklin....58bf7728441660728698.pdf
Märklin version of NEM 652 here - pages 28 and 29 https://static.maerklin....fbd9de85621663856176.pdf

One possibility (but you may not like it) use the direct wiring connection (4 wires):
Pin d Connection for the red and the black decoder wire (AUX1 output)
Pin e Connection for the blue decoder wire (orange marking) IN1
Pin f Connection for the blue decoder wire (yellow marking) IN2
Pin g Connection for the blue decoder wire (black marking) GND

I cannot help more because I program my mSD3 directly with a CS2 or CS3, using only 2 wires: GND and B (Slider)
Cheers
Jean

I have had several similar instances, where my CS2 and CS3 could make changes to a decoder but where my Decoder Programmer failed to read the chip.

I (as a software guy) just assumed that it was a software error. BigGrin

I am hoping that it has been or will be fixed in a future update. ThumpUp

Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

Hi
In any case you have to connect the black and red wire together to the first screw (ws + sw).
Otherwise is not working is a problem of the programmer PCB desing.
Working fine with 21MTC

I also ran into the same problem with the 60971 not recognizing the 8pin decoder.

With ESU's Lokprogrammer, even an 8-pin decoder can be recognized just by pointing to the pin, so I thought the 60971 was the same.

Looking at pages 18 and 19 of the 60971 manual, it says to connect the color wires in addition to the pin connections.

It was recognized when connected according to the manual.

I hope this solves it.

So it does say, that is what I get for not reading the manual thoroughly. I unfortunately cut the excessive wires from the decoder so I will have to try and solder a new and see if it works then.
Thanks for the sharp observation :)
