Installing a private ski lift for the local ski lodges to get up to the main ski runs. The bull wheel rotates, but this was easier for spray painting. Also the bull wheel and motor slide off the back, so one could argue that the new structure has hydraulic cable tensioning. I wanted to show the mechanical structure rather than building a motor room to cover everything. A bit fiddly in Z gauge, but not too difficult. Hopefully painting in the next few days. Unfortunately had a computer system meltdown, so photo was with an old pocket camera.

Remarkable Jonathon! Will you motorize it? I got one as a Christmas gift, but wrong scale. The E-bay seller in Tussing Germany is accepting it back.

While building I did think that it wouldn't be too difficult to do a motorised ski lift in Z gauge, but I would have to use high density FTFE (I have a few thicknesses up to 3mm) for the Bull Wheel and the Sheave Wheels on the In Line Towers for the cable and together with stainless axles for bearings which would last... But, as the second photo indicates my Z gauge layout other than the actual rail has an abrupt flat earth problem! I have cheated with the hydraulic cable tensioning and resorted to using a spring instead to keep the cable (1:220 polyester thread) taught. There is about 4mm (0.9m 1:1 scale) of useful tensioning. Hopefully no one will notice. Probably shouldn't have pointed it out! OD of the bull wheel is 15.5mm.

I like your layout. What chalets/models are those?

Great crafts and art! And this is Z gauge! I was just about to ask from where you purchased the Pistenbully, notising it was also custom built. Did you design and print all details for the lift and bully? |

It was a compilation of various images. I could have projected photos and built up a 3D model but it's a lot of work for not a lot more benefit for the model I wanted. So just did some basic plans. I did drift off my plans and also left a few things off, but happy with the result. It's difficult to see it without glasses anyway! But the key is to make some plans before you build something. The time you spend on plans will save far more time building.
