I was always wondering what to do with the long 1:87 or even 1:100 like Roco TUI coaches when using M Track. There are even modern Märklin coaches which can't pass the lanterns. It is as simply as this: Take away the lantern. Cut a piece of metal from the underneath cover or any rotten piece of track. Size: ca. 18 x 10 mm. Drill a 2mm hole and fix the new metal cover instead of a the lantern. It doesn't take much time to do this job.

And while working with the turnouts why not clean all of the mechanism at the same time?

I am sure the turnouts will work another 60 years; maybe even more.

Hi Martin
This is interesting but IMO, the nice historic looking of M tracks would be diminished (destroyed?) if you remove the lanterns, add servo motors, etc.
Why not then use the C track ?(excellent track which you can adapt very easily your wishes).

Just a matter of opinion, MartinBigGrin

My layout is built with C track. This is only meant as one option to use old turnouts with modern vehicles, especially if you want to use old track in hidden stations. Of course the lights are a part of old Märklin feeeling.

Hey,
When all of you guys are done vandalizing those poor defenseless switches you can send me the big lanterns so I can put them on my switches with the little ones.

Mikey
I love the smell of smoke fluid in the morning .
