Hi,

I've got a train with an ESU decoder. What would this talk to my mobile station 2 setup? I have 16 functions.

As the speed curve is crazy on this train, I looked up changing CVs to fix, but on both MS2s the "Program CV" had a line through it. Odd. Tried all sorts...

Eventually, after resetting/freeing/removing the train suddenly came up with only 5 functions looking very odd but the CV was suddenly programmable! But I'm now not brave enough to do it...

What does it all mean? How do I correctly access CV programming on this train?

Thanks

Is the ESU decoder one of the variety that does DCC and MFX (what they label M4)? I think if the MFX capability on the decoder is enabled (or is it if its on the decoder and the MS2) then the MFX protocol will be selected as the communications protocol of choice, so the DCC functionality will be limited; turning off MFX (or setting the MFX based options) may be the way to go. Though folks who have more DCC with MS2 knowledge than I will do a better job clarifying. I've only done DCC from my MS2 to locos that have no MFX capability.

Delete the loco from the MS2, put the loco on the track - after 5-10 seconds does it appear in the list as new MFX loco with icons?

If not, create a new locomotive as DCC with 126 speed steps.

Default address for ESU decoders is 3, try that first. If not, you can re-program CV1 to change its address to what you want.

If you are only seeing 5 functions, it sounds like you chose MM protocol (lights + 4). This will limit you to 4 functions and 28 speed steps, so delete it and re-add with the same address but as DCC with 126 speed steps.

If it were an MFX decoder it would show on the screen to automatically add and you would see icons for the different functions instead of a generic speaker icon.
