Hello all,

I have a Märklin 37171 Dampflok with a Loksound2 V.1 chip that started acting very erratic & strange this past weekend. It will spontaneously just take off at a speed that is much higher than the max speed when using the Uhlenbrock controller. This locomotive is running like a sewing machine on steroids, I have to keep a very close eye when using it because it will all of a sudden take off at full throttle "Casey Jones" speed and switch directions (forward & reverse) as well. I have to be quick to catch it so it doesn't jump off the track and get damaged. It's on the shelf for now, until I have time this weekend to open her up for inspection.

Has anyone had something similar like this happen?

I am not sure if it is a decoder problem or the Uhlenbrock control unit. I do not think it is the Uhlenbrock unit since the other digital Locomotives are running just fine.

The decoder was installed back in 2002, it has maybe 5 or 10 hours of operating time.

It did not do it at all last night and I ran it for about 20 minutes. I just don't want it to race off the track if I turn my back for a second or two.

I have this phenomenon on my layout as well. It happens with one of my Roco locos with address #3. I use an Ecos 50200 controller & I have this happen when I activate a certain point with address #3. I think the fact that they have a shared address or I have possibly a shared ground connection maybe of some note but I must say this is a random act & hard to find but yes loco takes of at a rate of knots backwards or forwards & I have to hit the stop button fast or we have a catastrophe in the making. I don't believe there is anything wrong with your loco but there would be no harm in reloading the whole profile again just in case there is a software glitch if you can. I hope someone on this forum has a solution for me as well. So your not alone with this issue.

Thanks for the advice Dave. I have never reset or done anything with the decoder except change the sound volume using CV's. I am definitely interested in learning how to do this though. I just need to put some time into researching the tools & procedures to do this. Playing with individual CV's through the controller can be tedious. I would like to learn how to do it with the better software & tools that are out there.

The locomotive did not do it at all, last night. But like you mentioned - you need to be quick to reacted to prevent a catastropheMad

I have the 2003 Version R6 LokSound 2 booklet. On page 22 the CV 29 is described. Setting bit 2 to zero might help. It seems like the decoder change to analog mode for some reason. This will prevent running in analog mode.
OneGauge Marklin and MTH, ESU ECoS 2.1 on LGB tracks. MTH 3-rail 0-gauge, DCS on GarGraves tracks. Z: Rokuhan tracks, analog or DCC+TC Gold.

When i use my trains and drive with the DCC protocol i make sure first by disable others protocol and analog drive in the adress CV 29 and CV 47.
This is for the version 4.
Yours lok sound are older version so i´m not sure if it only support DCC protocol?

Yes, I'm quite sure this will solve the problem. I had siùmilar problems with early Lokounds.

Thank you goofy, and yes it only supports the Märklin Motorola and the DCC Protocols. On this Loksound 2 decoder CV 29 is The configuration register. 2 was set on bit 2, so I changed that to 0 to switch off analog operation.

CV 47 in this manual is Function Assignment F9(r), Which is a function outputs activated by key F9 when driving backwards. What is your CV47?

CV 47 are protocol selection.

Thank you, I will look at my CV chart to see if there is a selection for that. But I did set the Uhlenbrock control unit to only transmit the Motorola New format for the addresses of this locomotive.

I have replaced this decoder long ago and can't verify this.

As far as I understand this decoder has the DCC address in CV1 and the MM2 address in CV64 and no way of disabling either of them. In other words: it is always listening to commands for both addresses. If you are sending DCC commands to another decoder with the same DCC address, this decoder will also respond. The decoder don't know how you have set your controller.
