Good evening fellow Marklin enthusiasts,

I recently acquired a Marklin 37930. the rail-car has damaged windscreens/windshields because a previous owner had stuck the windscreen wipers to the windscreens using a messy brown glue. The coupling covers on the nose cones are also missing. Even though this item was only produced recently the parts I require are not listed on the replacement parts list.

I have emailed Marklin service 3 times to inquire about replacement parts. I normally would get an acknowledgement that the email had been received. I have not had any acknowledgement for any of the emails I sent nor have I had a response from Marklin Service. Has any of you guys had similar experience? Is Marklin no longer offering this service?

Looking forward to your replies.

John

Yes!

I'm trying to have a discussion with Marklin Service regarding one of my Gauge 1 locos. Same (lack of) response as you. First email was sent one and a half months ago.

The last time I contacted them (in German...) I had a response within 24 hours. The time before 2 weeks... There are quite a few posts on the forum about slow response. What model is a Marklin 37930? (just curious)

Thank you all for your replies. It looks like response from Marklin Service is hit and miss at the moment. I guess I will have to be patient.

MrB32 my apologies for the typing error which I had not spotted. The item I am talking about is Marklin 39730 a Lint 41 Class 648.2 rail-car with video. Everything works on rail-car but I would like to restore it to original condition. I have looked at more recent production of the Lint railcar but the spare part listings for them do not show the windshield or the nose cones as available spare part items either.

Hi John,

Märklin's repair service is extremely busy, mainly due to the numerous warranty cases, so you need to have a look at the information on their website first. They can't reply to every email immediately.

Go to maerklin.de, which is also available in English. Choose 'Service', then click on 'spare parts search'. Next you enter the item number for your product, i.e. 39730 in your case. Ignore the security warning if there is any and proceed.

You'll see a list of available spare parts, but click on 'exploded drawing' first to see which spare parts can be bought by customers. You'll find that the dummy coupler and the windscreen wiper (number 1 in the drawing), can be ordered as a set, but the windscreen itself can't. In general, not all spare parts are available in the online shop because some repairs are best carried out by specialists, not customers.

What you need to do to get the windscreen and the other parts exchanged is to pack your rail car carefully, add a sheet with your name and address, email address, the receipt if you bought it from an official dealer, and a short, friendly (!) text explaining what you want to be repaired. Send it to the Märklin repair service in Göppingen. The address is on their website. It must be a parcel with online tracking.

Märklin has all the spare parts that are needed. They'll send you an estimate of how much it will cost after they have looked at it. If you agree and pay, they'll repair your item and send it back to you as a GLS parcel. That might take about two months or more, but it will be done eventually. Warranty cases get priority, by the way, so you need a little patience.

I've done it several times for warranty cases.

Best regards,

Mark
Best regards, Mark

I like Märklin items produced in the 1960s or early '70s, but also digital locos & current rolling stock.

Mark,

Thank you for your reply.

I think that I will probably just buy the listed parts from Marklin online shop. Shipping to Marklin from Ireland is expensive and I would like to know before I ship if the the work could be done. I can work on the windshields using isopropanol and a great deal of care to avoid further damage to the railcar. The biggest problem however is removing the glue that has run onto the red paint work. Removing this glue could potentially do more damage so maybe best left alone.

Best wishes,

John
