So we have three Märklin translations for the same German name.
Their nomenclature in German is not so good, but a lot accuracy is lost in translation.

So we have three Märklin translations for the same German name.
Their nomenclature in German is not so good, but a lot accuracy is lost in translation.
Going by the actual function of the vehicle, Guards Van is probably the most accurate. A guard, in English, refers to the railway operative in charge of the train. Sometimes translated as "train chief", this expression would never be used in English. Guard in this case does not refer to someone who is "guarding" the train, but more like "looking after" it.
Goods train luggage van is a very clumsy literal translation of the German name.
...and why would you carry luggage in a goods train? Would "parcels" be a better description of what is actually carried in these vans?

I have about 60 different wagons,
Most from Marklin,
and some from :
Roco
Piko
Fleischmann
Electrotren
More than 10 years ago, I visited a model train museum,
and I had the opportunity to buy a souvenir Marklin wagon.
Back home I took back my first Marklin starter set
that was sleeping from almost 30 years in his box - always the same story -,
and saw how it was running fine.
And I realised I have to build a layout!
That was how the story began...

Hi,
The museum at Rambuillet is well worth a visit for anybody staying in the Paris area. I had the pleasure of doing so a number of years back. Rambuillet lies to the south-west of Paris and can be reached by train with a journey time of about an hour. Sitting on the top deck of a French bi-level is worth the train fare alone.
The museum web-site can be found at
www.rambollitrain.com
.

Thank you for your informations Bob.
I think I should go back to this museum one day,
to see what's new and why not to take ideas for my layout.

I found a set of 2 Piko wagons in a toy shop today. I liked the look of them, and thought they will go well with my NS 1100 electric. The two wagons have different numbers.

Ian.
A recent Report in the Orange County Times (The Orange Capital of the world) by experts have found that Bananas are a danger to ones health and that very shortly strong moves shall be taken in the Dis-united nations to have Bs declared a noxious dangerous weed/ vegetable/fruit and that Bs to be withdrawn from the market place and all B Plantations will be ploughed in.
In the light of all this kerfufful what do you intend to do with your soon to be redundant yellow B Wagons.
Repaint them and call them Orange wagons????

1000? That very, very big collectors you must have it.[:0]
It is a very good idea to keep an inventory for insurance purposes or to keep from buying too many and too many of the same model. The current total is 214 freight cars, 166 passenger coaches, with 78 locomotives. A stop has now been put to this. They're like tribbles: every box I open, every crate unpacked... more show up!

Sorry Steven, I missed yours!
Very nice! I like the bright colours on the containers. I think they're meant to represent the colours of the printer's inks used for the magazine.

Very nice, I am amazed at how nice the body of the car looks. So can you tell me when Marklin produced kits? Was this a short lived thing or did it go on for some time with a variety of cars?
Thanks,
Chris

Wonderful Ian!
Can you give me an idea when you might stop with the banana wagons
You are really putting on the pressure
.
Oh well the hols are coming up, so I can start trolling through ebay to see if I can keep ahead of you
It seems unintentionally we might have started a competiton, and I'm loving it
.
I'd love to do an 'Utkan' where the engine is about 50mm from the last wagon - as his 44 with the tanker cars.
So with the modular layout I have I won't be able to stop buying until I'v reached a hundred.........do you think I'm being somewhat obsessive?
Oh well it's all in good fun. Who would have thunk that you could have such an entertaining competition with a like minded person half way across the world through ether space.
Ain't the internet grand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS, may the best banana win
