Hi Tom,

These are the only markings on the box the wagon came in,of course it might not be the correct box.

Hope it helps.

Hi,
The AOK wagon is Koll's 89728. That is, it was produced 1989. The production run was 500.

Thank you very much for your efforts.

It seems the box was made in '89.

You probably have a few rare (i. e. small series) items there (in good condition).
Since there are so many small series beerwagon variations, most of them don't have a collector value though.

Edit: Thanks, Bob. I'm afraid there won't be many showing up on ebay after more than 20 years.

Any idea what the part number of the "Kirin" beer wagon is?

Hi Damon,

The box the wagon came in has 4415 on the end of it.

The inside flap has the following printed...64 416 TTA 08 82 wd.

Hope this helps.

Hi Damon,

he Koll's number of the Kirin van is 87014. There are also two others listed, numbers 85081 and 87029. There have also been other Japanese liveried beer vans for Suntory and Sapporo. In addition Liliput did a van, sold in pairs, for Kirin about forty years ago.

The production run for most of these wagons is 500 which while making them unusual does not make them rare. In time most of them will appear on E-Bay. Beware of people who describes something as being very rare, or very rare, not in Koll's. They are only trying to push the price up.

My experience is that the age of a wagon does not make a lot of difference to how often they turn up. I suspect this is because most of them end up in collections rather than on the floor with the trainset. This means they have a good survival rate and in time come back onto the market.

It should be noted that these numbers are Koll's own and not related to any given them by Marklin. Later production have Marklin numbers of the form 4415.xxx. Earlier production do not have or else they are not publicised. In addition not all wagons are printed by Marklin.

Couple of photo's of my latest wagon, a 1957 4600 Guards van.

It's not a guards van - only military transports have guards vans.

It's a "Goods train luggage van" (that's how Märklin called it in the 1963 catalogue).
They call it "Freight Train Baggage Car" in this century.

It's the place were the chief of the train can do some paperwork.
Regards
Tom
