I have a BR 03.10 that Marklin released as a one time series painted in blue. Can anyone provide some background as to the prototype? It has the catalogue number 3489.

Thanks,

Mike.

On Stummi's Forum they called this loco "Humbug".
It seems there never was a blue streamlined prototype locomotive of this class.

That's a shame. It looks really nice. I've been looking at getting one of those.

What about the green version 33912? Is that also "humbug"?

Yes. And even the red versions 33911 and 37911 are called Humbug.

AFAIK the red colour is authentic for 05 001 and 05 002.

That's interesting, because a friend of mine subscibes to the Bar and grill, and he told me that they had recently had a discussion on the same subject. They seemed to think that there had been three prototypes painted in this scheme in era 3. But my loco has the Adler on the side of the tender, indicating era 2.Confused

If you're referring to the blue 03.10 there were indeed 3 painted blue in era3, however they did not have streamlining, were based out of Dortmund and used for F-trains until 1954 when they lost their blue. Road numbers 03 1014, 03 1022 and 03 1043.
You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DRG_Class_03.10

Roco make an accurate model of 03 1014 with AC/sound as catalog number 69281, top model. Unfortunately Marklins models of the era3 03.10 are somewhat inaccurate.

That's a nice description (Märklin took the moulds of BR 03, painted the loco blue and labelled it as BR 03.10).

3489 is the streamlined BR 03.10.

Yup, got both of thoseBlushing I new the one without streamlining was technically incorrect, but I can live with that. I didn't know that the streamlined version was pure Marklin fantasy.Blushing Blushing

Correct mould with fantasy livery. Here the "King in your own country" rule comes into the play. Enjoy the loco!

Of course if you get the green one you could pretend it's one of the 10 that went to Poland after the war:

These locos are too beautiful to be restricted to black or grey, no matter what the DRG actually did with them.
