Klarinett(David) I hope you are able to have somewhere to run those fine locomotives soon. Did you manage to find employment?

Opened up everything, no marring on the wooden display box, no pieces raining down. Found the two instruction books, warranty card, and figures in the lid. I took a lot of pics, and then, yes, put it all back in the box. I need to fix a few squawks on my layout first. So far very pleased. Regards, Thomas |

Quote:[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote:Originally posted by Bigdaddynz <br /> As or the smoke units, yes it would be best to have smoke fluid in the smoke units. One thing I have found is that the contacts on the bottom of the smoke unit may not be long enough to make contact with the copper contacts. This is so with mine, especially the front smoke unit. I may have to solder a small piece of wire on the bottom contact of the smoke unit for it to work. Currently only my 2nd smoke unit is working, the front one isn't. This is after I tried to bend the copper contacts inside the loco upwards, but they don't seem to want to hold their shape. Hence the need to lengthen the contact on the bottom of the smoke unit.
David, Have not installed the smoke units before. Which did you use 7226 or 72270? If you have any other pointers for the installation they are much appreciated. Regards, Thomas |

Thomas, for the Big Boy you need to use the Seuthe 11 smoke units. These look similar to the Marklin 7226 smoke units, but are rated for a higher voltage, 16v - 21v, which you will need in the BB, as the smoke units are feed directly from the track current.
The Marklin 7226 smoke units are actually rebadged Seuthe 10 smoke units, these are rated for 10v - 16v.
To get them working properly, I found it best to bend the contacts on the bottom of the smoke units so that the contact is angled at 45 degrees, and pointed to the rear of the loco. To install, you insert the unit from the top of the loco body and gently push them all the way down.
ETS can supply the Seuthe 11's, they cost about 18 euros each, and come with a small bottle of smoke fluid and a syringe for injecting the fluid into the smoke units. Keep in mind that the Marklin smoke fluid is supplied by Seuthe, so is fine to use with the Seuthe 11.

Congratulations David for your new loco, the mighty Big Boy, at last you got it[^]. Btw your images are the most bright i have seen so far. |
An outsider. I'm looking for the owner of that horse. He's tall, blonde, he smokes a cigar, and he's a pig!

Thanks Nikos, it's been a long time coming, but she sure is a beauty (just don't say that too loudly in front of some of our Marklin Club members.....!)
The pictures were taken in my train room, which had lots of sunlight coming in the window from the right as you see the pictures. The BB was sitting on my draughting board, with a sheet of mdf painted a light shade of grey serving as a backdrop. The camera was a point and shoot 3.2 megapixel Sony.

Yes a white bakground can make an image very bright. |

I received my Bad Boy 2 days ago. Very well packed by ETS. It has the best detailing I have seen so far and it is a big beautiful machine. When I first put it on the track and ran it, it derailed at every turnout. I was really disappointed. But after a few minutes, it ran just fine. I am guessing that the pickup shoe might have been stuck and later got unstuck. I have not run it up my ramps and bridges since I don't think they will be able to handle the weight. I have not done a good job of putting them together. The rosewood base plate has some damage. I think some of the loco wheels were not in the grooves and the screws were tightened in that position. Need to do some touchup on it. Only wish the sound was a little better. This loco has very respectable sound but it does not match up to my locos that have Loksound decoders.

Congrats to all new Big Boy-owners!
It´s a massive machine. I hope you know how to carry him. I´ve followed the instructions on my 37990 and some details have broken. The hinges on my cylinders (part 74 and 75) are broken. Therefore I´ve been careful with the 37991 and 37993.
Btw... As I´ve said before, my pick-up shoe on my 37993 was loose so I thought the decoder was broken. 37990 hade a loose screw which caused problems to the cardan shafts. |

I picked up a Trix BB and I also had an extra screw #92 floating around the bottom of the wooden box. Interesting. Did we ever figure out if this was missing from somewhere on the lok?
I'm trying to decide if I want to convert it to 3 rail or just add some two rail track and run it stock. |
