Three pole w/ permanent magnet - which decoder?

Hi, Are all three pole motors with a permanent magnet the same and can they all be driven by the same type of decoder? Which decoder would be best for such a motor? These questions are because I converted a Fleischmann loco that has a three pole motor and a permanent magnet to AC 3-rail using a marklin fx decoder out of a BR 86 from starter set 29533. The lok runs choppy at low speeds and the lights flicker. But at high speeds it runs smooth. The lights are fine at a stand still. I used marklin inductors (chokes) between decoder and motor. I'm pretty sure its a motor-decoder interaction, as all parts have been cleaned, oiled, etc. Here are some details of the conversion: https://www.marklin-user...ult.aspx?g=posts&t=12968Thanks for any suggestions |

Hi!
ESU decoders (and all other major brands) have CVs that allow them to match the motor.
The cheapo M* starter set and hobby decoders (e. g. 60760) cannot be configured to match the motor - so they'll work OK only with matching motors.
This is rather no matter of 3-pole vs. 5-pole - M* motors are different from GFN motors (but one M* Delta loco has such a GFN motor).
Load regulation measures the voltage generated in the motor - therefore it strongly depends on the kind of motor. |

I'd use a LoPi or a UHL 76320 (this one is cheaper). You can modify CVs in both in order to perfectly match every motor needs. |

Thanks, that pretty much answers my main question. By LoPi I assume you mean ESU LokPilot. Whats a GFN motor? |

GFN is short for Fleischmann ("Gebrüder Fleischmann, Nürnberg"). GFN manufactured locos for Märklin - sometimes with Fleischmann motor. |

Thanks all. In my thread on converting the Fleischmann 4330 to digital, I just added some links to a videos of the lok running. Let me know if you agree if its an improper motor-decoder match. |
