The loco has one rear led which has been flickering, and is now inop.I have cleaned feed wire, and contact on the body cover to no effect .Marklin site shows these as maintenance free, and part of the body assembly.Switching the body front to back, shows the led light is at fault. Does anyone have any experience with these?

I have had the solder come away from the light and oil on the plate where it connects, worth a try?

are the tangs on part 5 bent enough to touch and are they clean?

Hello, hope all is well.

This is a tough issue. Most of the time, adjusting the circuit board tangs solves the problem.

I just would like to ask a few questions, I hope you don’t mind.

Would you have a similar locomotive which you could use to test the lights? See if the results are the same on a different chassis. As long as it has the same length chassis, it may be a Br 200 or 151 from the same period as your release.

No chance this might still be on warranty from your vendor? I believe this is an older 5 pole chassis which has been around for a while.

Do you have a source for old Marklin z parts? It is possible the circuit board is defective. Is it possible to check the LED by using text probes from the controller?

Does this model have the LED module fastened to the shell. It might not be possible to replace these. Just getting them loose from the shell, however, might cause serious damage. I have seen the light module removed and soldered to the tangs. I don’t believe this is a solution. Placing the shell back on the chassis correctly becomes an issue.

There may be a source for the lights, but I am not certain Marklin will have them. You may need to do more research to get the correct LEDs. High-tech modelbahn might be of assistance. https://www.z-hightech.d...g=6&sprache=englisch Shipping might be prohibitive.

I hope this might help.

Let us know what happens. Take good care.

Swtiching the body around front to back, shows the same led is affected. So the light source is the problem, not the contact.
The led block is fastened to the body,so likely to be damaged, and damage the lights if prised off ..
One led still working,so I will live with it .......

I don't have any experience with this particular model, but I do know about electronics. The fault here certainly could be with the LED itself, but it could also be with the supporting circuitry, which probably consists of a regular diode a resistor and capacitor. Capacitors of the type used here are prone to fracture due to mechanical stress and that can cause them to fail over time in a way consistent with your description.

If I'm correct, though, the circuit board with the LEDs is mounted in the body shell and not easily removed and I think that is the major obstacle to resolving the problem. If you can remove the PCB it can almost certainly be repaired and you may even be able to sweet talk Marklin into sending a replacement. I'm very happy to help or advise if you do manage to get it out.

Good luck

Chris

I contacted Märklin by email, and was given a repair number and sheet to complete
The loco was despatched, and has taken over a month to reach them ,from the UK .
Mail in the other direction arrives in around eight days .
I was uncertain they had collected it from Customs ( which is the norm),but heard from Märklin yesterday that the repair is in the queue.I was concerned the loco was kicking around lost - we will see........

My experience of Marklin Service department has been positive, so I'm fairly confident they'll be able to repair this for you.

Cheers

Hello, great to hear Marklin is involved. Is this a warranty repair or must you pay? I suspected Marklin will repair anything within reason.

I was wondering if this is a newer Marklin model and if you purchased it from an authorized vendor? (I have since checked, this was last produced in 2008)

I have a V300, 88300. It has the same issues, but I purchased on eBay and someone tried to fix it, but failed. I would be very happy if Marklin accepted this for repairs. Appreciate your reply.

Thank you.

There is a payment limit requested on Märklin's form, after which you are evidently contacted. Not an expensive job I would guess for them ......

I should add ,I have bought all my locos used. Those from auction site have all needed work to get them running well,or at all . Mainy lack of proper lubrication,or brushes required .......
