Marklin 60976 Diesel sound decoder install to Marklin 30601.....

Have the new Marklin F7 #30601 that has a digital MFX decoder for headlights and directional control already factory installed.

This is an AC motor of course so no conversion kit would be necessary.

Looking to add sound using the Marklin 60976 Diesel sound decoder.....

Has anyone done this... thanks....

"It has a dc motor, not ac"

Well, it has the slider pickup for the center 'rail'.....which would be for AC.....

The pickup shoe is for power to the decoder. The decoder has a rectifier and runs everything in DC (including the motor).

Cheers,

The motor uses a permanent magnet, instead of the typical AC field wound magnet on AC motors, so that makes it a DC motor.
The slider is only a way to pick up current from the "third-rail"

The Märklin standard motor from the analogue days is an AC/DC motor. The decoders for that type of motor feed DC to the motor.

The new standard type of motors in digital locos is a DC motor.

I learned on this forum that digital track current is "bipolar pulsed DC".
Threerail Märklin is not AC when you use digital control.
Tworail DCC is not DC - the track current is the same for tworail and threerail.

AC/DC motors have 3 connectors, DC motors usually have 2 connectors. There are decoders for both types of motors.

Tom
