Hello,

I’m sure it’s been asked but is there a preferred track planning software program that the Marklin community likes? I would be using windows and looking at a combination of c and k track.

Thanks!
Marklin HO, CS3+, Train Controller 10 Gold, Any era. Like Swiss Locomotives.

I went with Railmodeller because at the time i understood it to be the only programme available that was Mac savvy and had the full M track library. This may have changed.

I only have experience with Scarm so I can't say if it's better or worse than other programs. There is a learning curve and I also used youtube to learn about using it. I used it first to plan and build the main layout. Later I expanded the layout quite a bit and made some changes to the main layout. And finally I made a small change in the main layout. All over several years and only using C track.
There is a lot of fiddling and experimenting to do when making ends meet in complicated areas where you have to make use of all kind of small bits of track pieces of all kind of sizes and curve radii. Even when things don't look to fit exactly on the computer screen the C track has some flexibility so things can get connected. I also used the paste and copy and insert and move around functions in order to find the best solution for some of the complicated places in the layout... and a lot of trial and error on the "drawing board".
The ability to print track plans or parts of plan is also useful. Printing can also be done in full size which I have used in smaller areas.

I designed my layout in WinTrack, and was very happy with it. That´s almost 20 years ago, and I dont know much about what has happened on the scene since then.
I understand that Märklins planning software is actually a modified WinTrack version
I have tried to use SCARM a couple of times to try out some ideas, geometries, etc. I dont really like that too much...
Best regards

I use WinTrack and did a pretty comprehensive layout with it using 8 layers. I like the ability to see the height of the tracks when doing framework - helps with the perspective and building the woodframe.
It does all the Marklin tracks and the decors using their CDs (yes, you have to buy CDs...) is pretty comprehensive.
As we are on the same timezone, I can organize a quick overview of how it works through either Zoom or Team - PM me if you are interested.
