Joined: 18/06/2003(UTC) Posts: 3,023 Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu, INDIA		Hi All, Does anyone have experience using the "winRAILWAYS" software from Sebastien Marchant? If so, how good is the software compared to others? What other software is out there that is worth considering? Is there a review of these softwares available anywhere on the Internet? Is the Marklin software still available, and if so, how good is it for planning M, K and C tracks. Is it necessary to have a different track planning software for each of the track systems or can one software handle all? I look forward to hearing from you. best regards, Ranjit

Joined: 25/07/2001(UTC) Posts: 11,165		I believe that Sebastien is not yet finished with the WinRailways, since this site would have it as a download then (Sebastien has this site as an official mirror site). I myself have the Raily 4.0 as my trackplanning software since it is cheap and also easy to understand. See http://www.raily.de/ . The 3.0 version is reviewed on this site. There are quite a few good pieces of software around, and the Märklin ComBoard is not one of them, neither is that C-track planning Java software... Take a look at the software links on this site, to get an idea of some of the software available.

The current version is 6.0 and I must admit that it keeps getting better. It has very many good features and a very good and updated library of "elements" you can use. By elements I mean all different tracks of Marklin up to now as well as most manufacturer's products in most scales (Atlas, Faller, Vollmer, Kibri, Pola, Peco......) I believe you should have a look at it at: http://www.winrail.com/ You can even download the demo for free and try it for yourself. There is a choice between Standard and Deluxe version (additional element compiler that lets you define your elements). Hope I helped Best Regards Costas

I have been using it heavily for the last months and must say that it is very usefull for creating even big layouts. If you plan to use its 3D features and have a medium to big layout, you must have plenty of RAM (512 MB would be nice). The parts library has been updated in version 6.1 with many models from Vollmer, Faller, Kibri and Pola. However you have to pay extra for a CD containing the 3D version of the above parts. In general it is a very good program. The only thing it is lacking is better landscape design features. George

		German trains era I-II and selected III, era depends on the mood, mostly Maerklin but i can be heretic if needed XD, heresy is no longer an issue.. LOL

OK, it doesn't have all the gadgets, and it doesn't have 3D, but it's still better than a stencil and a piece of paper...

I recently purchased WinTrack 3D version 6.1.2 First let me say that I love this program, many useful features I never even imagined when I was doing layouts with a template and pencil. It's also helping me brush up on my German reading skills. Anyway, my question is this; I've added a few buildings to the layout but when I select 3D view the program indicates some of them can not be found or are not installed(for example the f100116.te3 Schwarzburg Bahnhöfe). These are listed in the "Symbole Allgemein" menu, so they are not an extra add in. But I can't fine the *.te3 file that the program is looking for anywhere on the install disk. Does anyone know where these files can be found?

There is an extra program included on the disc in which you can make new 3D models like tyrains, wagons or houses. You really can copy your layout on you computer or look how your layout wil look like IRL. Ranjit: Concerning your f100116.te3. Check if the small icon, in front of the name, Is not crossed. Tif so, this means that you need an extra small file to retract this file. You will probably have to pay for it. have a look on www.wintrack.de or www.modellplan.de greetz

But I will have to pay for it. I think the model companies like Faller & Vollmer should offer TE3 file as a free download. Good marketing!

(Well, they say July 2004, but they are somethime a bit late.) I wonder if it is worth waiting for this, or if one should go with one of the other suppliers.

I'd recommend it despite the price. (Saves you lots of time for actual building!) Win-track also looks good but english language support is a little weak.
