How to tune ESU Loksound/Lokpilot 5 BEMF?

Joined: 22/08/2020(UTC) Posts: 46 Location: Maryland, Silver Spring		I have been adding sound to my Marklin loks with Loksound 5 decoders. These loks all have the 5 pole permanent magnet motor. I set the motor type to Marklin 5* High Performance motor with the Lokprogrammer. For most of the loks this works well, but for a few I observe jerking as the lok comes to a halt, and some hunting when the speed is changed. I make sure there is no binding in the drive mechanism, and the loks run perfectly before making the conversion. I have tried the auto-tune procedure (CV54=0) but that makes it worse. Fiddling about with the many parameters is not really helping. Can anyone suggest a step-by-step procedure to tune these motors? Thanks! Gopal

Joined: 04/02/2011(UTC) Posts: 3,630 Location: Paris, France		Hi Gopal I use mostly Märklin mSD3 decoders but once I made an exception for an ESU LokSoundDecoder 5 Mini (for space reasons) and it was hell tuning with 500 CVs I ended up not using the loco and now NEVER would I use these ESU decoders again Sorry, it is not helping but what a difference with mSD3 when used with a CS3!! Very user friendly, can program them without any additional tool (LokProgrammer) the seft-adjusting procedure works really well. Back to your problem The manual is here file:///C:/Users/brucy/D...ual_Edition-15_eBook.pdf If you look at page 70, you will find a paragraph and a table on how to set the motor-related parameters. ESU mentions that jerking at low speed is when the load compensation parameter needs adjusting. Here is an interesting paragraph in the manual Firstly, check if the irregular performance is due to any mechanical faults. Bent driving rods are one common cause. When you turn off load compensation (set CV 49 Bit 0 to 0) and the problem persists then it is likely there is a mechanical fault. Cheers Jean
