Hello all
I have had 6 Amtrak passenger cars for years. No box and no parts to connect them all up. looks like some sort of push-in wire connection required?
cars are numbered as follows: 2/3340 (front and rear?) 2/1047 baggage cars 2674 includes pick-up slider finally 4813
checked out Mr Google. don.t think it is s Marklin 43600 set because no observation car.
as usual any advice much appreciated, thanks

Your coaches seem to be from the 43600 set.

I would suggest fitting couplings from the 72020 set, which will provide conductive connections between cars. I suspect the set may have originally been supplied with the conducting drawbar that has been around for years, but i wouldn't recommend using it as it is a pain to couple units up.

Hi Jim,

You only need the "coupler heads", which are not very expensive. The part number is E115737 (sometimes "abbreviated" to 115737). I don´t know about the shipping cost, but normally a pack of ten costs less than 20 Euros. There are several vendors on German eBay.

For the sake of completeness re. the images in post no. 4:

Photo 1 shows:
- observation car (running at the end of the train)
- baggage car
- baggage car
- coach
- sleeper
- observation car (running at the end of the train)
Thus, you are owning two "tail end cars".

Photo 2:
The pockets in which the coupler heads (E115737) need to be inserted are clearly visible.

The passenger cars have been produced in various liveries. The Santa Fe cars used to be sold individually, and sometimes spare parts are offered by referring to their article numbers:
43601 coach
43602 sleeper
43603 baggage
43604 observation

I think that the Amtrak set came with factory installed lighting and current conducting couplers. I don't think that the separately sold models were outfitted as such, but I do not have any of the models so I cannot be certain. As you stated, the basic parts would be the same though although Maerklin has used different types of interior lighting in some models than those which are sold separately.

pack of 10 ordered as per your P.M. total cost 31.03 EURO will let you know how they work in 3 or 4 months time when they arrive
(been in a drawer for very long time another month or 2 will not matter.
Big thanks to all for advice.

Very good. The installation is easy (no tools needed):
(1) Hold the pocket carefully to prevent lateral movement.
(2) Then push the coupler into the pocket until it clicks.
