Sounds like that Märklin Online Shop either do not know what they are doing or they do not give a sh**, Graham !! Horrible customer service.
Cheers,
Ranjit

Hi Ranjit
How are you? hope all is well with you in Chennai, stay safe. As to poor customer service I'm not sure. I think as a manufacture they are looking after their dealers, which in commendable, I don't think dealers would be happy with their supplier under cutting them on price. How ever perhaps they are a bit slack with information on their website, or maybe its there I just haven't found it. Any way Ill stick to dealers I'm learning to trust and have adequate information on there website or great communication.
Cheers Graham

But still, Graham, the person at Märklin Online Shop cannot respond to you the way he or she did. For all export orders, they are expected to remove the standard 19% MwSt (Mehrwertsteuer).
Cheers,
Ranjit

Cheers,

We may expect them to remove the tax, bu they don't have to.

Good for the Federal Republic of Germany if they collect VAT from people who don't have to pay VAT. Bad for the customer, easier for Märklin.
They have a web shop, but try to ensure that not too many people use it.

I received my first shipment from Modellbahn Union in Kamen/Germany (https://www.modellbahnunion.com/) yesterday, a Liliput diesel loco Henschel/BBC DE 2500, the prototype of which I encountered during its test runs in Switzerland many, many years ago (see picture below).
Hardly ever before have I experienced such a swift and hassle-free delivery from abroad to Switzerland! The very nice model took just four days to arrive here, and unless something unexpected turns up in the next few days or weeks, not even the usual trouble with customs or VAT occurred. Many thanks for the latter also to UPS.
Five stars from me for Modellbahn Union!

Cheers Graham.
They sell some shirts, mugs, old catalogue reprints and some other gadgets that I am not sure are sold elsewhere.
Except from that, I don't understand the reason of existence for that shop, but reasons probably exist, otherwise the shop didn't exist.
Best regards,
Miguel
