I was at my local dealer today and he had a brown based Marklin C-track that didn't seem to match the profile of standard C-track. I was initially interested in it because the switches were R1 and I have never seen R1's. Also what was interesting is they had thumb wheels for switching the track. Anyone seen this stuff before?

I can't recall what the difference is off hand, but I'm sure someone will come up with the details. But that is only needed if you expand your track with c track. If you are using the Alpha track on its own then nothing need change.

Not sure if I plan to adapt my C-track to Alpha. I like it due to the R1 Switch as it is like M-track in that respect but I'm on the fence about it. Thanks for the info kiwiAlan.

Hi A very interesting topic Alpha Trains were phased out in 1995 and C-Track was introduced in 1996. I made a search and you may read here https://www.maerklin-h0-forum.de...is/das-spielgleis-alpha/So in short: - the track geometry (lengths, diameter) follows the M track - the connecting section of the Alpha track is compatible withe the C-track EXCEPT a little plastic piece protruding from a C rail does not exist on Alpha track It is very easy to remove on one C track to allow the connection. One other topic: the plastic used. The early C-Tracks were aging very badly (a drop of 40 cm on wood floor would be enough to break them after 10 years of aging). No panic it is true from 1996 until 2002 or so. I am not sure but the same may very well be true with Alpha tracks Cheers Jean |
