It would make sense to have done a limited run of Northlanders at the same time as the metal RAm.
But it is anybody's guess

There's also a set of coaches for the loco. Belgian trains doesn't fit my future layout but it's a surprise loc so then it fits my collection. |

Good for the belgians and the Märklin fan-boys! ;-) -But what an odd choice of model for Märklin. I wonder what kind of serious lobbying has had to be done for this one to see the light... haha Is the model valid for SNCF people? -or any other liveries? |

In the brochure it is written:
"Prototype steam exhaust using two smoke stacks by means of a newly designed smoke unit with two smoke devices."
Does it mean the smoke will be in synch with the wheels and what was expected in a real steamer? Or will it be just the usual Seuthe?
Edit: Anyway, it is also written "Factory installed smoke generator", that are the usual words for the Seuthe.... |

Marklin is very big in Belgium, this is a great choice for them to do this really iconic Belgium steamer 👍 this picture was taken at Lille in Northern France. They ran into France and the Netherlands I believe https://www.cheminots.ne...c28b077e9570fc8e2d0a.jpg |

The coaches seem to be interesting for the ones that don't already have them. They are 1:87 and that is a plus (I decided not buy more out of 1:87 scale coaches). At the moment I am much more interested in the locomotive than the coaches, so I will probably order the loco but for sure not the coaches. I will decide when the coaches will be available.

Loc ordered. Delivery due mid-December for the loc. And beginning 2021 for the coaches. New and specific smoke generator included! Time for « synchronised » smoke has maybe arrived A.

According to the description the locomotive was also used on international routes to France, Switzerland, Luxemburg and Germany (Aachen). I like the locomotive and ordered it. Have to think a while about the coaches. |

These steam engines were put into service between 1935 and 1938. I don't know what the appropriate coaches for such a lok during the early years would be. The M2 commuter coaches were only put into service at the very end of the 1950s. The engines were withdrawn from service in 1962.
I would think that early coaches of the I1 and I2 types would be good options. You may be able to find these from LS Models/ModelsWorld

Wow, who would have thought a belgian surprise loco was a possibility? A brass model was already for sale in the past here, but for sure a lot more expensive: http://treinshopolaerts.be/enownproductions.htmlI like the model! What do you think of the minimum radius R2 spec? Is it real or a little exaggerated? It would be a first for a pacific type loco. My father wants to order one but it has to run on his C track layout with R1 curves and R1 curved switches.

I think most of the models Märklin will announce in the future will have that limitation. Exception will be to Startup range and small models.cy It is a trend that is a consequence due to the demand for accuracy and true to scale that is wanted these days. We can't have it all.. |

Well, that same limitation was announced for the French 241A when that was a surprise loco, but it has subsequently been shown to run on R1. It may be that it will run on R1 without some of the detailing ... but i would want someone else to try it first.

More often it is because of clearance problems, like signals and catenary posts. |

A Belgian steamer is a surprise. But it suits the line, having French and Swiss steamers as earlier surprise models.
IIRC many, if not all, of those surprise models turned out to be Made in China. I won't be surprised if honourable US members of this honourable forum will show pictures of the box with this aforementioned sticker. |

Originally Posted by: AntoinePrt ... Enjoy the sound. Let’s hope Marklin does the things correctly this time A. Hi Antoine, Thanks for the video. That is a very impressive steam engine. The driving wheels were almost as big (within 20mm) as the Bavarian High-Stepper ( 39436) It had the same number of cylinders (4 albeit not compounded) and had a high degree of super-heating. The boiler shape and cladding reminds me of the streamlined Bulleid Pacifics on the British Southern Railway, even in their rebuilt form. This Class 1 had two firehole doors - Ive never seen that before. Certainly the 1930s saw the pinnacle of steam locomotive design, and the 100 year mark is almost upon us. Kimball |

Well, the model is certainly beautiful, and it is good news that it was seen both in Germany and France. (-and I suppose it was in the Nederlands too...?) But what worries me now, are the coaches; These looks too much like local traffic coaches. (Of course one cant travel for more than 2 hours in train in Belgium, without leaving the state...) -But shouldnt the coaches for such a huge loco be more for "long distance travelling"? |

Edit: Anyway, it is also written "Factory installed smoke generator", that are the usual words for the Seuthe.... Its indeed a very tempting model. I believe they would have mentioned it if the smoke was synchronized, but anyway it's an interesting development.

When you read the blurb on the Marklin web page it seems these are the style of coaches it would have hauled post war, as the loco was being relegated to minor lines as diesel and electric locos were taking over the main lines. also the model appears to have two head lights which i guess would be its post war arrangement, so it would seem these coaches are the correct ones for the era modelled.

No, I haven't heard of it either. The Marklin web page blurb says that due to the high coal usage at times it had two firemen to stoke it. Also from the rear truck frame it seems that it had a very large grate, so to get the coal evenly spread over the fire bed they may have needed to use two fire doors to get an even spread of coal over the fire as they stoked it.

Like they did many times before, Märklin look in their cupboard what they have for coaches to go along with the beautiful Loco like the 241 A 65 (they ended up with Swiss local coaches, so they do the same with this new Belgian Loco. Because the coaches are irrelevant is not a good enough reason not the buy splendid-looking locos. Just ignore the coaches and get them from another supplier. Cheers Jean |

What a beautiful loco... but that price is above my train budget for this year!
And R2 only is no good for me, so much R1 on my layouts :S |
