Hi Guys
I am pretty new to all this high tech digital stuff! I did have Marklin many years ago and decided to get back into it a few years back when I started collecting for my retirement!! Most recently I was able to obtain a mint condition set 3471, for which I have bought a 60921 decoder set to fully digitize it.......any ideas for good sound - what sound card should I buy? Hopefully someone will be able to give me some good advise. I follow marklin-users regularly and hope to be able to make some worthwhile contributions in the near future. Cheers Phil

Hi
Where did you find the 60921 decoder?? This is from ages ago from 2004........ There is no sound on this decoder
Better to buy a modern decoder with sound for your case a 60976 or 60986
May be the motor from the set is OK but only if the 3471 has a DCM motor
Post a picture oh the motor, that will help to give right advise
Regards

G'day Phil, you need to change the motor to a high propulsion motor at best or at worst fit only a permanent magnet. ESU sell them. You can install a ESU Loksound decoder in my case it was done a few years ago it was the ESU V3.5 Loksound decoder. Also I changed the interior lighting using LED globes. It turned out quite nicely. Regards Dave... PS: This is just to give you some ideas: https://www.marklin-users.net/in...Tog/sites/CH/3071-3.html |

The 3471 might have some special requirements for conversion. The model itself has a delta decoder, but it also has an electronic relay to determine which slider it takes power from. I would inquire with a specialist before beginning any work on this model. Perhaps Jacques Vuyes has done such a conversion and can contribute to this topic?

Many thanks for the advice guys......I found the decoder cheap on ebay it is supposedly new but if it's that old I might just use it in a small 3000 I have that is analogue. I will seek out a better decoder with sound for the 3471.......thanks also for the link Dave, nice to know there is another aussie around who appreciates Marklin!!

Hi
I have done this conversion not in a DElTA but on an analogue model 3071
This is not an easy conversion anyway.
The problems are the Pick-up shoe changeover and the lighting.
The solution that I used was:
Motor: 60944 in my case, may be you need the 60941 a picture will help Decoder: 60976 Base plate for the decoder: 60973, in this plate the changing pick-up shoe relais is on the board
For the lights I used LEDs witch is another story
BE CAREFUL: IS NOT A CONVERSION FOR A BEGINNER

I would say one thing: please don't change the motor!!! That type of motor was maybe the best Märklin has ever used...alas only for a short period! ESU gives instructions on how to drive this type of motor in their booklet on LokPilot and LokSound de coders . I have never performed that change so cannot give you specifics on those but I'm sure there is someone here who's done this before. Good luck Jacques |

Good luck Jacques Jacques, are you referring to the 39700 with the C-Sinus motor? The 3471 has the same motor AFAIR as the Ae 6/6 or the classic BR 103. Regards Mike C
