Hi, I just bought and old 7051 Crane. I have a small C Track starter set that comes with a transformer. The question is - how do I power this crane? Can it run from this transformer? I don't want to burn the crane out by plugging it into the wrong thing! Confused

Hi John

The 7051 Crane needs 16 VAC between the yellow plug and the brown plug. Other plugs (motor rotation, hook lift, solenoid) have to be connected to a pushbutton control (as for switches) with the control common connected to the brown plug / brown output of your transformer (not a switched power supply as provided now, because the crane is intended to operate with 16VAC, 50Hz).

Regarding your starter set and digital (if it is digital or delta), a strongly recommended practice is to assign the transformer used for digital exclusively to that purpose to reduce the risk of burning your digital output circuit (MS1 or MS2, or CS1, CS2). If you insist you can connect the 16 VAC of your transformer as described above at your own risk. One simple connection of it to any digital signal may destroy your digital power system but if you are sure they will never ever come in contact it will work.
If your starter set is neither digital nor delta but traditional 16 VAC then no restrictions.
Cheers

Jean
PS I love this crane although I avoid using it with more recent HO stuf (scale, noise, tin plate)
