Hello friends.

I am Vicente from Spain (Sorry for my bad english).

I want to install a decoder in my old BR80 (gauge 1) Marklin 5700, its have original DC motor.

I want to control it with my Mobile Station II.
What would be the most suitable decoder for this locomotive?. (In the future I would like to add sound).

Best regards from Spain.

Hola, Vicente. Welcome to the forum.

Do you realize that you can buy a digital locomotive much like yours brand new for 80 Euros? It's the 30000, the modern equivalent of the 3000, and it works pretty well.

Adding sound after you converted your loco to digital would mean starting all over again and buying a much more expensive decoder that would come with a speaker. Both would then have to be installed.

You are looking at a lot of money. Don't do it.

If you really like sound, and in a steam loco they are very nice, buy a brand new one.

(A word of caution, however: before you buy a Marklin steamer at a low price, like the 36244 for 200 Euros, find out what people are saying about it. I have its predecessor, the 36243, and it was not a good buy. It does have wonderful sounds, however. It is slow and the motor died within a year. Fortunately, the local Marklin shop here was able to replace it under warranty pretty quickly.)

Hope this helps.

Sorry, but Vicente likes to convert a Gauge 1 loc to digital. 3000 and its successor 30000 is Gauge H0.

Kind regards
Jörg

by opening the loco you should ascertain what type of circuit board is within the loco, I would recommend an ESU sound decoder with an ESU 21 pin adapter plate (61968) whereas you can add 6 aux functions otherwise, IF YOU LOOK AT THE ESU website you can search for items you would like (Gauge 1 decoders) or look under Märklin digital decoders for Gauge 1.

Not only that but if you get the M4 version then you will have an mfx capability.

Dear Friends. Thank you for your answers.
I have read the instruction manual of the LOKOSOUND XL V4 and I think that it is only compatible with permanent magnet motors, the locomotive has the original motor of 3 connections.
Do you think I should mount a permanent magnet motor?

Hola Vincente,

I checked information about the Marklin 5700, and all ones made before 2002 have an AC motor, and a mechanic or electronic switch to change the direction of the 5700.
If you want to make it digital with sound you have to change indeed the engine to a DC one.

Thank you the information Loem.

What would be the most suitable engine to install in this locomotive?

it would most probably the same process as with HO engines by changing the coil magnet (AC) to a perm. magnet (DC) and than adding the choice of decoder to the loco.

It would appear to be a good solution. ESU also make a magnet for the motor to convert it to use that decoder. Don't have the catalogue number for the magnet handy, but it has been mentioned in another thread on this forum.

Hi Vincent,

On the world wide web i found a desription of your loc:

5710.pdf (4,829kb) downloaded 85 time(s).

The engine i see i don't know. You have to replace at least the coil, better also the rotor.

On youtube i found a man who has a Marklin br80 5700 converted to digital with sound and smoke.

I think the shortest way for you to see how to do that is have contact with him.

Look on: Marklin 5700 made digital

I am curious how it will go!

Best whishes,

LoeM

Dear Friends:

I have ordered the LokSound XL V4.0, but I have forgotten to tell the seller that I need to send the decoder with the BR80 sound programmed.

I contacted the seller, but unfortunately it was too late, the seller tells me that he sent me the decoder without programming the sound.

Does the Loksound bring a programmed sound by default?
Is it possible to operate without programming any sound?
(I'll use it with the Mobile Station 2)

Thanks, Vicente.

Hello friends, again.

I finally finished the installation of the decoder (Loksound XL), I also changed the coils of the motor by others of permanent magnets and installed a speaker.

Here you have a video with the performance test.
Thank you for your contributions.
