Yes, Aumühle is the terminus of the line S21 of the S-Bahn Hamburg to Elbgaustraße, which runs westwards along the railway line Berlin-Hamburg. It is also used as terminus for the regional railway RB11 running eastwards to Büchen. After WW2 long distance traffic on the Berlin-Hamburger Bahn was severely reduced due to the iron curtain between the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic, with only a few transit trans left between Hamburg and Berlin. Suburban traffic continued to be steam-operated after WW2. Suburban sprawl led to increased demand, so the steam trains were replaced by a new electric S-Bahn line between Berliner Tor and Bergedorf. Local and regional traffic running from Bergedorf eastwards to Aumühle und further on to Büchen was handled with steam / diesel trains.

In 1969 an extension of the S-Bahn from Bergedorf to Aumühle took place. Some modifications at the station were made. The southern platform was closed and the two southern tracks became pure transit tracks for trains to and from Berlin The northern platform, which previously served as a stop for suburban trains, became the terminus of the S-Bahn. While the S-Bahn trains from Elbgaustraße (formerly Pinneberg) were operated on track 1, track 2 was divided in the center by bumpers. The western section served for the S-Bahn, the eastern part for regional trains commuting between Büchen and Aumühle. Thus it was possible to change trains between the S-Bahn and the regional train without having to change the platform.

After German reunification the conditions changed. Hamburg-Berlin became an ICE line. Therefore the S-Bahn between Berliner Tor and Aumühle obtained dedicated tracks. During the construction S-Bahn traffic to Aumühle was interrupted from 1994 to 2002, and the station was served by diesel shuttle trains from Bergedorf. During the conversion, a dual-track S Bahn line was built between Bergedorf and Wohltorf next to the existing long-distance railway line, but between Wohltorf and Aumühle was only space for one track. In addition, level crossings were eliminated. In Aumühle the remains of the southern platform on the long-distance line were completely removed and the high-speed tracks were upgraded. As of 2002, Aumühle serves again as terminus for the S21 between Aumühle/Bergedorf and Elbgaustraße and the RB 11 to Büchen via Friedrichsruh, Schwarzenbek and Müssen.

Further trivia:

Otto von Bismarck´s manor house is positioned in the forest, directly beside the Hamburg-Berlin railway line, in Friedrichsruh. Some of his descendants still live there. Bismarck was entombed in a mausoleum just outside of Friedrichsruh in 1899.

Büchen, a railway junction in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, is served by trains on the Berlin–Hamburg and Lübeck–Lüneburg lines. During the division of Germany, Büchen was a border station on the line between Berlin and Hamburg in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Keep the pictures coming guys. We dont have scenery like this in NZ. We have one or 2 spectacular bridges but no castles etc. Only one mountain railway in NZ and that is stuffed now because of fires this week which have nearly destroyed a few metal bridges. They now look like a giant has sat on them and twisted them out of shape. With Arthurs pass now closed as well as Kaikoura, the only railway operating in the South Island would be from Christchurch to Invecargill via Dunedin i would think.
