Dear all, I am a Marklin collector and user from Italy, focused on Marklin items until the 50ies.

Over the years I have read on this forum many interesting discussions on our shared passion and I have learned a lot from many of you.

I have 2 questions regarding the infamous/famous Marklin layout presented at the Leipzigf air in 1939,and these are my issues :

1 - I have two series of 2365 accessory ( from 1 to 6 and from 7 to 12 ) and I had never seen other 2365 series, but in the picture of the Leipzig layout shown in the D16 catalogue it seems there are also number 16 and 17.

2 - still in the same picture, in the elevated part of the layout in the background there is an illuminated building ( in front of the 493/12 oval switch tower ) that I am not able to identify.

Thank you in advance for your help and all my best to all of you.

Antonio

Hi Antonio,

The prewar Marklin "Messeanlagen" were used to display new products to dealers. However, due to the onset of war, some items that were seen on the layout were not produced. The most notable of these is the SVT 800, which is now in the Marklin museum. If the signal box is not a prototype, then it may be from the O gauge product lineup. (13728/4 looks similar)

As for the number shields, they were probably renumbered in the factory for this layout.

Regards
Peter

Hi all,

Here is the picture we are talking about:

Large picture, save it to your disk to see all details.

I agree that the products discussed are prototypes only used on that layout.

Markus

Hi Antonio,

I'm sure I own the book where the other picture is shown. But I don't remember where I've seen the picture. I could make a scan and post it here, if I would know where to look.

Regards

Markus

Hi all
As far as I know some pictures were seen in

Spielzeug revue n. 1/2000 pag.23 to 28

And

Hans WILLY Walter highlights , weihnachten 1991 issue,pag. 19

Same pictures and track plan can be found at TimplateForum 2006,article by D. Muller and. F. RINDERKNECHT

Hereafter link to trackplan and to timplate forum, but I am not sure it works.

Dear friends

That is the most impressive Layout I would love to reproduce.
One of my friend did it and it was wonderfull to see it in live.

But LMS800 did it as well and posted the trackplan.

Please see on the forum here :

Thanks for pointing me to that thread. Very informative and what an awesome looking layoutDrool Love . When I bought the track from 5horizonrr I fell in love with the older looking track, engines and rolling stock. So much that I had to buy a 800 engine and 4 freight carsBigGrin . Again thanks for the info.

By the way, most of the items I needed for this display I bought in Rome .

Hi Antonio,
I bought the items from a collector, he had to sell his collection due to " private problems" (divorce).
Kind regards

If I may bring this one back to the front, so to speak, and with probably one of the more strange questions in re this layout. (I have seen a few renditions here and in the Gaggenau show albums) My question is this:

Does anyone know, or is it even important, what colour the base was for 1939 show? Obviously dark (blue? green?) to provide the most contrast for the track and accessories? Just that curious quirk of mine...puzzled I am? Confused

Thanks!
